Thanks for the tips guys. I had decided on the Eibach's over the H&R springs just because I was concerned that a drop of greater than 1" would be too much. As I scrape a little bit already. I used H&R springs on one of my previous BMWs and loved 'em.

I was really hoping someone could point me to a DIY example for the springs. I guess I'll have to take the pics and write the DIY myself.

I'll definitely have an alignment done after I'm finished.

+1 I had a shop do the springs while they were mounting new wheels... and the four wheel alignment was a must!

Get a set of coil overs and set your ride height.

Sure... If you want to pay five or six times the money.

True, but you're then matching the springs to the dampers and adjustability.

Right you are my friend... But there is a "bang for buck" enjoyment/dollar ratio for me. That's why Eibachs and Fisters work for me. Not to disparage the choices made by others... mods are a very personal thing for a man and his car.

And... In respect to your input, I do have to say that if I planned to track my car, my choices would be vastly different.

I'm a pretty hands on guy and do most everything myself. I know I can handle the muffler swap w/no sweat. So far I haven't found any DIYs on how to swap out the springs. I don't know what special tools I might need.

I've swapped out springs and shocks on other cars before. I think the trickiest thing I encountered was needing a ball joint separator. However I'm not sure if one is required for this job on my '96 997 C2 (stock, psm only). Also is there any special spring compressor required, or will a standard one I rent from the autoparts store be adequate?

Any pointers to other threads or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, Derek
Hey Derek, if you have any questions regarding performance upgrades on the car, feel free to PM me or email me. Ill be glad to help you and answer any questions you have. But a good start is the Mufflers and air intake, which will help the engine breath better and reduce some of restriction for improved power and sound. I can also offer you a nice member discount on everything. Enjoy the car and good luck with all the mods.
Thanks,

Hey 2L8IWON, we offer a 996/997 GT3 style conversion kit which works perfectly with the GT3 rear bumper. Its an easy and simple way to improve the exhaust system when converting to the GT3 look. I can also price out a new GT3 rear bumper for you as well, so it will be a full ready kit. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
