Default Oil Change!

My 997.2 just crossed it's first 5000 miles. Should i change the oil or wait to 10000 as per the manual?

I would have change it at 2k miles then every 5K. If you track your car or live in a super hot climate like USMC.....you won't go wrong changing it every 3k mile. It's a good idea.

We are all nuts! Change it and be sure to use the proper 15,000 mile oil.

change it since it's the first oil change

then i would stick to 7.5-10k mile interval

those of you changing at 3k is wasting resources. the oil is barely getting any usage at 3k mi

LOL. Going nuts on the 997 is part of the experience. I'm thinking 5k or 3k like USMC DS1.

How about this, go 2k in the 997, then put the used oil in the BMW and go 4k, and then put the oil in the lawnmower, the chipper, and snowblower.

I personally use a one (1) year oil change program. Typically I drive my 'queen' 3 to 5 thousand miles per year so it works out to be very similar to most replies.

I've been lead to believe the 1st change should be done at the 3 thousand mile mark (or sooner)in case their are any engine build particles floating around.

Change it at 5k since it's your first oil change. After that 7.5-10k is fine depending on the type of driving you do. There is no reason to change it sooner..
I have just shy of 71k on my '07 Targa 4. I have yet to burn any oil..

My first change was at 2K miles, right after the break-in period, then I switched to once a year which for me works out to <5K miles. To the OP, since it's your first change, I'd do it now.
