Default Unusual 22 cent Front License Plate fix...

After ANOTHER FFS $80 ticket I finally succumbed to the Vancouver Motorcycle Traffic Patrol, ordered the groovy Skene brackets and as a temporary measure installed my front license plate with 22 cents worth of 3M all-weather doubled-side tape. Who knew, right?

The motorcyle cops were really quite humerous, for once. I said "So have you guys got all the crime solved in Vancouver, junkies off the street etc... It's 4:00pm - short on your quota?" The older guy commented that they already met their quota but were going for the toaster bonus prize. Funny. The young guy said I got the prize for the most humerous and well dressed ticket for the day and he'd like to take my car out on his beat. Mmmmkoi.

P.s. OK, it's not sexy but at the same time, it's not too bad! Had it on a week and there is NO rubbing or anything, still holding tight. It's also blocks the center rad a bit but so far so good, car in no way running hot. I don't like the look of the plate up high on the bumper. Dorky. Sorry - I don't mean to offend anyone.

Sorry Eric (Bumper Plugs) but this post may put you out of business!

Note: I posted this over in the "What did you do today" thread but I thought for it's outright uniqueness it needed its' own post!

Joel

I've found that M/C cops here in the LA area really don't have much of a sense of humor when it comes to saying things like "Aren't there child molesters, speeders, etc out there where your time can be better spent protecting the community?" The response was "Sir . . . Please get out of the automobile and place your hands on the hood". M/C officers IMHO have some sort of trait that makes them overly aggressive and possess some sort of psychological issue (obsessive boot shine, oversize aviator sunglasses, etc). Hollywood has portrayed them fairly well.

I keep my mouth shut now.

Hey Joel,

Not sure how tight the double sided tape can hold with high speed driving. Your TT is a very fast car.

I reluctantly had drilled holes into bumpers of my RS and club coupe. The plate is covering the holes, so the holes didn't bother me at all. When it comes time to sell (if ever), then the holes are the new owner's problem, not mine.

I've checked it Tim and so far so good. I think when the Kline system arrives I'll swap it out but until then it stays!

And... I NEVER high speed drive...

I wrapped 2 rare earth magnets in black electrician tape and mounted them to the top of my center grill. When I get out of the car I take the plate out of the trunk and stick it to the magnets. It holds well while driving too.

The only reason I did this is due to the Columbus Ohio meter maids writing tickets as fast as they can in the Short North district of Columbus.

My '01 C4 has personal plates but I lost the front one. Ordered a new one just in case and keep the receipt ($13) for that in the car. Strange thing is that order never gets full-fillled...lost in the mail?
