Seeking advice on used 2005 911 Base
Greetings, I am looking at buying a 2005 911 base used with around 40,000 miles on it. It has an engine number of 69501273 and transmission number of 1003362. Does this have the dual row IMS bearing or the single row IMS bearing? I think it is an M96 engine.
Am also considering getting warranty through Fidelity Insurance offered by the dealer and was wondering how much people have paid for platinum coverage? Also has anyone using Fidelity had an IMS problem and got Fidelity to cover the same?
I know its a lot of questions, first time 911 buyer and would appreciate any help. Thanks much...:-)

Can't comment on your engine IMS. As for Fidelity warranty I was given the following quote by the dealer on my 2005 CS with 35.5k miles
6y/60000m $7035
5y/50000m $6522
4y/48000m $5135
with $500 deductible
I also checked with service manager and he said that Fidelity is good to work with. So I assume they paying reasonably well. He did not provide any specific comments on IMS issue though.

Greetings cobra - welcome to the board!
If the car you're looking at is a base Carrera, it'll have the M96 engine. S cars have the M97.
The only way to REALLY tell if you have the newer IMS bearings is by dropping the engine, separating the transmission and looking in there. But your engine number can give you a clue.
From post #14 in Production date and IMS:

From post #14 in Production date and IMS:
Engine (3.6) number up to M96/05 69507475 has the older IMS bearing and Engine number from M96/05 69507476 has the larger revised IMS.
So from that it looks like the car you're looking at probably has the older bearing set. This is not a guarantee, but an educated guess.

Not an expert myself, but I also bought a 2005 997 two months ago, 39,000 miles in immaculate shape. My engine number is even lower than yours and does not have the upgraded IMS but I never give it a thought. I bought the Easy Care (Gold Care) 48 month/50,000 mile warranty for about 5 grand from the dealer, although I did not purchase the car there. I waited 40 years to buy this car and it is pure pleasure for me. Congratulations and I hope you enjoy it half as much as I enjoy mine.

@Papa, thanks much for the detail on the warranty. I must admit, my main fear is the IMS breakdown, $2000~$5000 repairs out of pocket I can explain to the Mrs :-)..with the $20,000 bill, she would have my head.
@mgrodon18, thanks much yep that makes sense. The car was sold to first owner in 2004 itself so if I put my money, I would say it did not have the updated bearing.
@D1coach, thats great that you got Easycare. My dealer seems to be quoting me $4000 for 3 yr/36000 from Fidelity.
Walked away from a totalled 2000 Boxster 69000 miles without any sign of IMS, RMS issues for 4 years of owning it. Bought that on impulse, this one doing research due to +$$$$$$..
Thanks guys for the assistance :-)

Or you could always change the clutch if it hasn't been changed yet & while at it do the IMS upgrade- hopefully you have the old IMS thats easy to get to once doing the clutch..$2500 total for clutch + IMS now you have a new clutch & the IMS doesn't have to make you lose sleep...
