Floor Mat Anchor - Help needed
Hi all,
The left plastic screw (that affixes the sticky backing on the floormat) has popped out and will not re-tighten. The screw itself is okay, appears in the same condition as the right side screw that is working.
On further inspection, at the hole in the carpet floor there is tiny white pieces of debris that look like styrofoam. I'm guessing the plastic anchor or insert in the floor is broken. I've done plenty of searches and scanned thru my PET book and I don't see a insert peice.
Any thoughts? I'd hate to use epoxy to keep the screw in there.

not having seen exactly what you are dealing with, I was just thinking you could squeeze clear silicone caulk into the hole, then push the screw in. Once it sets, it should hold pretty well, but you would also be able to pull it out when you have to/need to.

You could re-position and screw it in the carpet 1/2" to the left or right. Or, take a piece of the carpet and backing from the top by cutting a small piece and stuffing it in the present hole with some shoe glue. Sort of like putting a couple wooden matches in a striped out wood screw hole. The later is probably what I'd do.

Last winter I used fitted hard plastic weathertech floor mats that aren't compatible with the velcro OEM mats so I unscrewed mine. This spring I didn't bother putting the male screw piece back in when I reinstalled my OEM carpets. I've had zero issues with my mats moving. As a bonus it is easier to keep the rugs clean. A few times a week I remove the mats and give them a shake or give them a quick slap with my hand outside of the car without constantly stressing the relatively weak attachment points. If you look at the pedal setup there is very little chance of carpets getting caught in the pedals that would jam up the accelerator or prevent activating the brake. It seems that Porsche and other car manufactures put in carpet attachment anchors because their lawyers tell them it's necessary.

Depending upon how torn out the hole in the carpet is you may need to reinforce it with some over sized 'fender washers' to secure it to your floor later.
