Default Sport Mode

Six weeks ago I purchased a 2009 977.2 911 C2... a lease-back garage queen with 21,000 miles in almost perfect condition. Carrera white with PDK. So far I have installed a clear wrap on the nose and ordered the sports mode option from Suncoast which will be installed next week. What should I expect from the sports mode?

I'm contemplating getting the same sports mode addition for my PDK as well...are you getting it dealer installed, what are they charging?

Love to hear your feedback after its been installed..

I have that factory on my '06 C4... your major difference will be in throttle response... not a huge difference, but enough to make you happy you spent the money. it is only different fuel and ignition mapping, but you will smile.

actually, on a N/A car, it's probably the biggest difference for the money that you will feel... don't waste your money on anything else as non turbo cars are EXTREMELY expensive to mod with little return

I've got Sport mode on my '07 C2 tiptronic. Like 82_930 wrote, it will improve your throttle response. Sport mode also affects the shift points (at least it does with the tiptronic). Upshifts occur at much higher RPMs when in Sport mode and, when the shifter is in the "M" slot, you can run up to the rev limiter without it upshifting on its own (as happens in the "D" slot). Sport mode also affects the stability management system by delaying when PSM intervenes.

I call it the "giggle" button. The buddies who have test driven my C2S all eventually got to the sport button... "what's that for". The car already induces grins but the sport button takes it to another level resulting in uncontrollable giggles from the driver. Only way to cure these symptoms is more frequent applications/drives with sport mode on... of course, this is reserved for the owner. I have an MT car but some PDK owners have commented that this option is trans formative in affecting the sports car feel of their 997.2. As an FYI, the factory installed sport mode tightens up the suspension as well. This was one of the selling characteristics of the car for me. My wife prefers "driving Miss Daisy" mode (if there is such a thing in a 997) when I chauffeur her to the stores. I prefer "driving Alvira" mode otherwise. GL with the mod. It's sure to take a few years off the work/life stress meter.

I got mine for my '07 C2 as well as it made a noticeable improvement as you've stated. I just wish it stayed on all the time without having to hit the "Sport" mode when I start the car - even on short drives it's on. Worth the money.

That's right - but only if you've got the PASM adjustable suspension.

Also, if you've a manual transmission, when you're about to hit the rev limiter, Sport mode will deactivate cylinders in a rotating manner. It's intended to be an advance warning that you might want to shift.

Isn't your color Carrara white?

As to your question - sport modes transforms a PDK car in to an entirely different driving experience.
You'll be thrilled you did it!

Yes, good catch re PASM. Re "deactivation of cylinders in a rotating manner"... do you have more details re this. I'm curious now about how this works, how is this different then what occurs in standard mode, etc. TIA.

Sport Mode makes PDK shift better. PDK in normal mode on the street is very non-performance feeling as it upshifts in auto mode to higher gears at much to slow of speeds. PDK also shifts faster in sport mode as well. Also if you get Sport Plus Mode and head to the track you will find PDK is super fast in shifting.

I would never ever have a PDK car with out Sport Chrono Plus.

Thanks everyone for chiming in...

I've been deciding on what order of mods I should proceed with next:
Sport Mode addition or IPD Plenum on my 09 PDK Carrera. (these will be my final mods to the car)

-Would anyone with experience getting it installed know if the Sports Mode part for PDK comes with both Sport and Sport Plus buttons as pictured on Suncoast?

((Not to go off topic but also wanted to share since many of you have contributed much to my knowledge for my car--> since purchase I have had the fister mod done with Sharkwerks Bypass and Techart springs installed...Thanks again! --Love them all!!))
