I have seen such great press on the 981 S recently.I have owned a few Boxster's and a Cayman.I have also had a few 911s and recently got an 07 C2S..I dont know if I could go back to the Boxster but I am curious to see the new Cayman.

The 911 Porsche is the the "Only Real" Porsche to own. I know I'll get flamed but the Panamera, Boxster, Cayenne and Cayman were added to the line-up so the 911 could survive; Porsche would go bankrupt without them. Well, I used to believe this until the 991 came out.

Porsche is synonymous with 911 and there's really no replacing the car with another model Porsche nor any other car for that matter. If you're sick of your C2S get a GTS or GT3. When you get sick of your GT3 then buy the RS. After that....there are plenty of vintage 911's or even TT's to choose from.

Perhaps this is stink'n think'n but that's the way I see it....

I drove a 981 non-s the last time I was in Dallas. It's a nice smaller car at a great price but it's not a 911. Go drive one and see what you think.

smaller, simpler, lighter; never will compare to a 911. Put a 997, 991 on a diet and go.

It's a great car but no.

I could possibly replace the 911 with a future Panamera 2-door coupe.

Don't like convertibles and at 6'6", I don't fit comfortably in a Cayman (especially with a helmet) so not for me. I also just really like 911s of all vintages - I'm more inclined to buy other 911s than to veer off in another direction.

That said, I have driven the 981 Boxtser S and enjoyed it. It is a great car.

Excited to see the new cayman. Some of the spy photos seem to suggest a more exaggerated slope of the "hatch," reminiscent of old 911's. In being lighter and smaller, might embody the oldstyle 911 feel more than the 991.

The 981 is an excellent sports car...if it had more horsepower, more torque, more interior room (like a small back seat to hold my stuff) and that visceral, absolutely planted feel, I'd buy one.

Oh, hang on, I did...my 997.1.

The new Cayman will look spectacular. Gorgeous. It will be hailed by journalists as the best porsche to drive and finally allowed to rightfully out perform its elder and famous brother the 911. Etc etc.

That said, it or a Boxster will still be too small for me, unable to carry my doggie (not a small issue), and will be too loud. And it won't be a 911.

I feel the same as most of the people who've already posted. After owning 911s for over 20 years, I replaced my 996 with an '07 Boxster S. Great car but not a 911. After 2 years I admitted the mistake to myself and bought my 997.2 S. Purely subjective, but the 911 is still the quintessential Porsche IMO.

I dont track but have some amazing country roads in North Carolina.I have driven my 87 911 and both Boxster and Cayman..The 997 is by far the better.
I love them all but the power and grip of the 997 is amazing.
