My first failure. No not IMS, no not RMS . . . but one or maybe both of the 'frunk' gas struts. I find it hard to believe that after just 8 years they've failed.
Should I write to PCNA and complain or just install the pair I ordered from Pelican Parts?
What do you guys think?
ps. My wife's Lexus RX330 has gone through 2 sets of tailgate struts in just 6 years.

The devices that keep the hood from falling on you or part of the suspension? If it's the hood struts, 8 years is pretty good.

while I'm not that smart when it comes to the cars, I'm still sorry to read it...
I myself had an adventure with a rear brake light bulb today.....
I am very fortunate to have an indy shop with in less than 5 minutes....

good luck with the reparations
Good move . . . They probably have the special tools to deal w/ changing out a light bulb. I wonder how many 'service units' Porsche has allocated to this task?
The gas struts on my prior M3 failed at the 10 yrs mark... easy fix/replacement. It's great to hear that this is the 1st "catastrophic failure" to date on an 8 yrs old car. Perhaps it's time to write a short note to PCNA commending them on how reliable the car has been for you... a little good will reported back to PCNA may amount to some good "Carma" when you really need it down the road... especially if you get a person to contact there.

You make fun of the guy going to the shop to change a light bulb but you're considering suing Porsche for struts after 8 yrs of usage. I don't know which situation is funnier to be honest with you...

Your subject had me worried for a minute Arnie. Glad to hear the "catastrophic failure" wasn't anything serious.

Hello . . . . . Are you familiar w/ the term humor and/or sarcasm?

Oh come on now . . . . Nobody ever praises Porsche on these forums but rather complains about trivial stuff. Hence my (I guess poor attempt at humor) strut life complaint.

yeah, I did disclose the fact that I'm not yet so swift with these Porsche cars haha, I did in fact learn a couple of interesting things about the process too....not shamed to admit it; I actually love it......I'm new to the brand so there's a crap load of input for me and I love it......
I didn't sense your remark as being a sardonic one either.........if it was, then so be it, if not......then that's good too......
I'd also add: I was nearing the end of a morning drive and thought I'd STOP IN on the indy shop guys to see what was happening....
and my car coincidently told me I had a bulb out, so I thought, what the hell.......
just didn't want to blab on your thread, but now I have haha
It was clearly an attempt at humor and I think some of us did get it but you might want to reconsider that gig at comedy central.
On a serious note it's great to see how reliable these cars are... BTW, how many miles are you at? I've considered taking my own advice to send a note to PCNA myself as I'm coming up on 55K miles over 4 yrs w/o one failure... only maintenance type service items so far and some pre-emptive maintenance I like to do myself. I'm also knocking on wood as I type this.
