1st Catastrophic Failure
It was clearly an attempt at humor and I think some of us did get it but you might want to reconsider that gig at comedy central.
On a serious note it's great to see how reliable these cars are... BTW, how many miles are you at? I've considered taking my own advice to send a note to PCNA myself as I'm coming up on 55K miles over 4 yrs w/o one failure... only maintenance type service items so far and pre-emptive maintenance I like to do myself. I'm also knocking on wood as I type this.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that my 'queen' has just 27K miles. It was built in August 2004 so that's just under 4K miles per year. She gets out of the garage a few times a week and a couple of trips each year to Laguna Seca, Santa Barbra, San Diego and of course local car guy events (ie. shows, Cars & Coffee, etc). My S.O. is a 'anti-car' gal; my 997S is too noisy, bumpy, hard to get out of, etc. etc. so we take her soft riding Lexus to most places.
OK . . . I'll keep my day job. Oh I can't . . . . I'm retired. I thought about replacing Jerry Seinfield. We have one thing (not being funny I guess) in common . . . Our love of all things Porsche.

My 06 cab just turned 40k miles and rewarded her with a new battery last week. The dealer I had purchased if from in early 2010 had installed an undersized battery, so it was starting to struggle a little. The new one (Interstate) cranks much faster.
Article in yesterday's WSJ about how sarcasm can't be communicated in text - there are now new symbols to use - I think one was *S and the other was an upside down lower case e with a period in the middle.
I guess I'm lucky. My S.O. loves riding in the Porsche, but hates driving it. Best of both worlds IMO.

Thats the least I would expect given the price of the car. I expect more from a Honda, why should Porsche get praise for doing what a car at 1/4 the price does. At the this price point, I should never have to worry about anything but change oil and plugs for 10 years

OP-it's obvious you bought a real POS, and there is a high likelihood that the other strut is facing imminent failure.
Sell it immediately at half KBB... To me....

Compared to my prior BMW's this car is a gem and my wife the accountant will back me on that one. Compared to my 20 yrs old 4Runner... we'll have to wait 20 yrs to see but my money would be on the Toyota for reliability. But isn't this like comparing apples and oranges or the tortoise vs. the hare in the reliability race. I have both vehicles for a good reasons... right tool for the job. I think it would be more appropriate to compare say a Maserati, M3, Vette, and/or AM vs. the Carrera on performance and reliability. I' maintained and service my prior '98 M3 for 10 yrs and 114k miles. So far the Carrera hold it's own with regards to reliability in it's performance car class.
That would be my 96 Accord that I just sold, ok it didn't have the tail, but it was pretty reliable
I hear you on performance comparison, but they dont get high fives from me just for not falling apart after 4 years. What can I say, I'm a tough guy to please

OK, my 4Runner is still stock with all it's original parts except the radiator, tires, brakes, shocks, and clutch... that's pretty amazing after 20 yrs. It's hard to bet the Japanese at reliability but from what I understand Porsche did learn and benefit from Toyota's lean manufacturing methods which is encouraging. Plus I've noticed numerous posting of p-cars with 100k+ miles and many a years of faithful service. Ask me in 10 yrs though what I think but so far I'm very happy as compared to my prior BMW's. I think it's the cost of labor which leaves many with some hesitation. I would be if I had to rely on the p-dealer vs. my own DIY labor cost for various maintenance jobs. BTW, Lexus is the other brand when it comes to reliability. 4.5 yrs and 48K miles on our GX470 and they had to replace a flaky ashtray under warranty. Don't think I'll be get my money's worth out of that extend warranty. We may have to pass this one down to a grand kid when they start driving in 20 yrs.
First I have to unload some really nice Florida swamp land and possibly some of the eastern seaboard I just bought this morning.
My 911 didn't start falling apart until about 75 K miles. Until then only scheduled maintanence. In the last 5 K miles I've replaced the water pump, starter, alternator cable and had some transmision work (and replacement of the shifter linkage) done.
Good to know. BTW, what type of tranny work was done. TIA.
I have a tip. The main problem was corrosion in the cable leading from the gear shift lever to the transmission. That was the only part that was replaced AFASIK. Other than that the transmission fluid was changed and some internal parts lubricated.
