Default Hit a raccoon, front bumper broken, advice anyone?

I'm an animal lover so I'm sick about hitting this guy, rainy street, fully into ABS but got him front/center on my 05 non-S. The impact broke out the center plastic filler piece in the bumper cover (no center radiator) and, of course, broke all of the slots in the bumper cover that hold in this center "hole filler" in place. The impact also broke the bottom center attachment to the metal piece that internally supports the cover. I think I know the answer to this, but I assume this means replacing the bumper cover as there is no way to repair the slots for the filler piece, right?

Do I need to worry about the exposure of the interior of the bumper? There are a group of black/white wires (spiral wrapped in black tape?) that run along the bottom of the bumper cover..

Bright side, the bumper is chipped to hell from our Florida street sandblasting and there's easy access to the horns so I can replace the dead one and not sound like someone ran over Bozo every time I use the only surviving one.

Pic? Can't quite visualize this one.
Sorry for your 'loss', but jeebers raccoons are nasty.
If you wind up replacing the bumper, it might be worth contacting some of the aftermarket body-kit suppliers. Their customers are ditching OEM parts. With some luck (and maybe a little patience) you might even be able to find a bumper in the right color.
Good luck.

Check if it can be ordered as a seperate part with a dealer. Maybe Suncoast. I would think it a DIY job, but if you are not inclined let the dealer do it. There are DIY threads in the GT3 forums for screen installs, this maybe similar.
Good luck.

You will be OK and a few days of exposure won't harm anything.

The original horns go bad after a few years, I had to replace both on my 2006 997 a few months ago.

Sorry about the raccoon..........

For the mean time I'd spray paint the backround matt black and put a full front mesh screen in.

+1... there are several good DIY posts re the 3rd rad install. I did this mod several months ago and still have the blank filler panel if you need it. BTW, you'll likely have to remove the front fascia to reinstall the blank filler panel so at that point you've don't half the work required to install the 3rd rad. Installing some front grills would be a good ideal as well to keep road debris/critters from taking out your rads for obvious reasons.

Since the bumper cover is toast anyway, you could order a new grill, pull the bumper cover, and plastic weld the grill to the bumper from the inside. Simple and unnoticeable once on the car. That would buy you some time if you don't want to foot the bill for a new cover/paint.

Sleep on it if you want but my advise would be to to replace the bumper cover.

You do not want to drive the car around too much with the bumper cover compromised as this can allow water to blow into areas where it shouldn't and could affect the air flow through the radiator ducts.

You're lucky. I hit some road debris and while I managed to salvage the bumper cover -- it was just cracked -- it cost me a radiator, A/C condensor, some other bracket hardware, and a 75 mile tow and 2 days one night in Wichita KS.

Aso, if you think the raccoon was bad, try picking on a mule deer next time.

If you do you can still sleep on what you'll do about the car but you'll cry yourself to sleep first.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Problem around here (New Zealand) is Hawks, they cling on to road kill until the last minute, often too late - this grill is from zunsport.co.uk, might be worth your consideration

I like those Zunsport grilles, I think I've seen them here on the forum (?)
Macster, I've had the pleasure of the mule deer hit, only in my dad's old Jeep, so not as expensive and luckily no injuries (except for the deer).

Thanks again.
