Burning Smell

Burning Smell
I have an 07 C2S that has 36,000 miles on it. THe car has been awesome, not one problem other than replacing the battery which is expected. I've noticed during the last month that after harder acceleration runs there is a burning smell. Any ideas? I haven't dropped the clutch so I doubt it that's but who knows.

check your brakes. If your pads are low you could be heating up your braking system, also check around the exhaust under the rear. If you run over and pick up some road gunk, it will cook off slowly from those exhaust components. - Just some thoughts. It would help if you could narrow down where the smell might be originating from.

Not sure if it normal, in some cases, even in cars several years old, the Cosmoline applied from the factory prior to shipping the car burns off when the engine runs too hot, but that smells different than a plastic or oil burn.
It is difficult to accurately describe a burning smell here, but Cosmoline burning off has a sort ofsweet smell.

Mine has the cosmoline smell after some hard accelerations sometimes, and I haven't found a correlation with certain tempatures or anything like that. All I know is I smell it less or notice it less than when I bought it new 6 years ago. But it is still there occasionally.

If it's not the clutch (and we all know what that smells like) and it's not the brakes or the remaining cosmoline I would seriously check out the serpentine belt and the come-along wheels in the engine area. I was smelling sort of a burning rubber smell (which I dutifully reported to my service advisor) and sure enough a few weeks later my serpentine belt failed. If they are not tracking perfectly you will get abnormal wear and then a surprise failure...see my posting on serpentine belts. Your mileage is close to where mine was when it failed.
