A co-worker is selling his '07 997TT. I asked for first right of refusal when he first got it back in '09 as a 40K mile car. It now has just over 80K miles. He said he has never had a problem with it. The dealership where it was sold (CPO) and serviced is less than a mile from work and 3 miles from my home.

I plan on asking for the service history and doing a PPI, but what else should I look for on a car with that many miles? He loves it but he puts too many miles on it, he just got a CPO M6 that his GF likes better and he just wants a cheaper commuter (3 hours a day).

I routinely put 125,000 miles on my cars before selling so 80K is no big deal.

Well, I have two small boys I need to drop off at daycare. I still hope to use it 1-2 days a week (which is why I am considering a 911, otherwise I'd get a Boxster), but being so close to everywhere I usually go, I don't see myself adding more than 5k miles a year.

He is offering it to me for $40k. Hard to pass it up, IMO.

No pics, sorry. I see it often at work so I haven't bothered. But it's Slate (my favorite grey) on Black. It has clearbra, sport chrono, and that's all I know. TT's are pretty loaded, no? It has steel brakes. Exterior and interior are a B+, but considering the mileage, it is in excellent condition.

He got this car a week after I got my 987S (which I since sold because with little kids, if I can't take at least one on an errand, the car gets used twice a month). Loved the Boxster, but I need a 911 with back seats if I want to use it enough to warrant owning a sportscar.

I don't understand how an M6 would be a cheaper commuter. It gets what, half the gas mileage? That adds up quickly, especially if your commute is 3 hours.

From my experience, getting to know the previous owner (how he drives, maintains, and cares to know about his car, etc.) is just as important as getting an inspection. The clearbra is +1 for preventative maintenance. His comments, such as the one about his wife and cheaper commuter, IMO, are highly irrelevant.

Can he answer on the spot:
-When was the last oil change?
-Who does the work? If it's not dealer maintained, ask about the shop and do your research. See if he knows about his mechanic and if he cares whether or not the mechanic is competent.
-Approximately when and what major maintenance was done? Can he back the maintenance up with paperwork?
-What kind of brakes and tires are on the car?

Just a few to give you an idea...He should be able to answer these if he really cared about his car.

Dealer trade is not much more than $40k. I've known him for 6+ years, so he is hooking me up because he knows I like it.

He doesn't want to commute with the M6 either. He used to have a Prius before that he commuted in. He wants to a buy a new one to commute in. The M6 is shared with his GF. He says he wants to buy a shiny new TT soon and keep it with low miles. He's a quirky guy.

The car was always serviced at the dealership less than a mile from work. He said he did oil changes there every 3-5K miles. He can't be lying since he knows I will check and will go there for work.

I know he paid $2k+ for a set of tires, so he buys the good stuff. It has steel rotors.

$40K for a 07 997 TT? If a tree fell on it a day after you bought it you'd make money. I gotta get a new set of friends...

That's not what I saw online. The dealer I asked said 40k-ish sounded right. And a guy I know who used to manage a high end dealership actually suggested I pass on it.

But I am not discussing the price anymore. I should not have posted it. I want input on what to look for.

If it has the service history you state done by miles you will be fine. All the issues will be already taken care of. Buy and enjoy,its not like you will lose $$ if you sell.
