I'm really happy that I got what I wanted in my 997S Cabriolet. I think the only thing that I would like more in the 991 is the automatic windscreen deployer. Other than that, I have to say I like the sound from my 997.1S car with PSE.
Steering appears similar, but have been unable to test drive a 991S with PCCB--to do a direct comparison in the handling department. Also, I just am not that competent with a 991S enough to toss it around which I feel better doing with my own car.
The longer wheel base will cause me to bottom out on some driveway situations, while the shorter front and rear overhangs will protect the bottom of the front and rear better.
The 991 is a well sorted out machine, but I prefer the more classic '911' interior which the 997, 993 and 964 all followed. (The 996 was the odd ball in the lot). The 991 console reminds me of the 928.

Nothing I like about it!
I can't get by the looks to impartially discuss the other aspects of the car. I saw one briefly the other day from the front and for a moment couldn't figure out what it was......no thanks!

Nice car, but I'll keep my 997/2 which I bought for $85k, rather than a new 991 for $115k.
I like my interior better, you can't notice the 15 hp diff between the 991S and the 997S.
I'd prob. buy one, IF I didn't already have my 997/2.
I'm going to keep these cards.

I've seen almost half a dozen 991s thus far driving here in S. Florida, so obviously it is selling like hotcakes and therefore much preferable to the 997 in every way
I've driven one. Brilliant car, but lacks some of the visceral feel of its predecessor. That of course may accurately be said of every generation. (Admittedly the one I drove was an automatic, so it's really difficult for me to say how much the other items accounted for the diminished fun-factor).
I had the opportunity to have a go in a new Ferrari CA recently, and I must applaud Porsche's restraint in terms of not loading the cockpit with a bewildering and distracting assortment of LCD displays and cryptic buttons. Whilst the 991 gives the impression of catering to the diminished testosterone levels of its ageing demographic, the Ferrari impresses as catering more to gamers than petrolheads. I've quite a high proficiency for being able to operate high-tech items intuitively, but I would need to study the Ferrari's user manual as diligently as for the medical boards.
Aside from the overdone badging on the rear deck (easily remedied with a length of dental floss), I really don't have much to say negatively about the 991 aesthetics. It retains the unmistakable profile of a 911. In some peripheral styling cues it seems to emulate other marques, which I find rather sad, because it's always been my contention it should be the other way round.
In all, if the time comes that my 997 is in need of such expensive repair that it makes no economic sense to do so, I could see myself buying a 991. Then again by that time so many things can have changed that it's impossible to say. All I can say is that I am impressed by the 991, but not enough to sell my 997 and buy one.

I don't have anything substantive to add; I just felt left out b/c 997 TB #1 and TB#2 made comments. If you, the OP really want opinions and info post this on the 991 forum (if you haven't already).

Drove the 991 back to back with the new Boxter. Preferred the Boxter.
Having said that, I do really like the sleek new exterior look of the 991. The interior is nice too, but somewhat a departure from the "classic" 911 design.

All i can sa after driving the 991 on the track and on public roads is its an awesome car! A car that is in tune with modern times. The thing sounds awesome with the throttle blips downshifts, of course im talking about the pdk version. Really good. That sound symposer makes it sound so good too. But its too expensive. Its too good. Yes there is such a thing as being too good. Its too good that it has lost its character, being a 911. It smply has blended into being a good spors/gt car. Jt like the other new car. Materials are better, everything feels better and sounds better, specially the doors, the way it closes. But that it not why i bought a 911 is it? We all know why we enjoy driving a 911. Is the 991 still a 911? Some may already start saying., no.

I like the 991.
Test drove a 991S (with PDK) when I bought my 9974S.
Seemed quicker, very planted...and for the first time, I could actually move the drivers seat TOO far back! Love the extra interior room. Didn't think I'd like the new console but it's ok. PDK is just magic. Can putter around all day in auto just like any soccer Mom...but what a blast manu-shifting with the steering wheel paddles! Having said all that, I still opted for the 997 - it's been around longer and IS Porsche 911 to me. Has more character to me but that could be because I've wanted the 997 for so long. Might get PDK in my next 911, not sure. For now, lovin' my 997.

I can't get around the looks either, the 997 just appeals to me more. I'll happily keep my 997.1S for years to come, plan on adding a 2013 Boss 302 in the coming months and still be out ahead then buying a 991.

There are like HUNDREDS of threads on this topic, at the end of the day, some love it, some hate it.
My short summary of 991 (IMO):
- Numb steering (electric vs. hydrolic)
- More GT than past gens (more quiet, comfy, less sporty)
- Panamera Interior, more luxury, less sporty
- Great handling, but poor 911 handling dynamics (lookup Adias posts on this)
- Better exhaust than 997.2, not as good as 997.1
- Engine just about the same as 997.2
- Maintenance gonna be much more difficult/costly with poor engine access
- Very pricy if optioned, getting close to GT3 and Turbo pricing with must-have options
- Biggest 911 yet, least curves of all generations
- Overall, a great car, but not a great 911

Bad visability from the larger C Pillar, Tighter, less roomy interior because of bigger console and tunnel , Good Bermeister sould system, about same engine and trans/PDK
