I am looking at purchasing a 2007 Turbo, and the one I am looking at seems to have maps that came with the car. In fact, I couldn't even find my home address!
How often are map updates released for this car? I understand they come on DVD, and I think I can get them from the dealership. Is there a place that lists details and version numbers for the latest map DVD?

I have a 2006 C4, and the original owners had the nav system put it AFTER they'd bought it. So it's factory nav, just installed after purchase.
I wish they'd hadn't. I hate that extra room taken up in an already limited frunk. It's already small because of the AWD hardware.
And...I think all the electronics they're stuffing into cars now are just obsolete in a couple years anyway. Screens get better, communications get better, new features (USB, iPod connectors, bluetooth, etc, etc, etc) come along every couple years and start rendering in-car electronics obsolete.
If I want up-to-date nav, I'll go out and get the latest GPS system, which is going to be 10 times as advanced as anything in a 6 year old car.
I shudder to think what these "modern" systems are going to be like 15, 20+ years from now. Hell, they won't even function with anything I bet.
I love my 997.1, but the PCM and nav in it is hopefully outdated. Good thing I don't use it much. I'll just turn on the PSE.

All true, but for a couple thousand you can have the latest Pioneer and/or Alpine unit installed, with large touch screen display, iPod, BT, etc....
I have the original Nav and CD changer in my car, but would like to have a means to connect my iPod. Apparently that's a $700 hit, and I'll still be left with a really old (but not obsolete) unit. The alternative I'm considering now is to spend come more, and bring the whole thing up to date.

997.1 NAV is fine for me, I've traveled around all over with absolutely no issues and I don't even have the 2010 maps!
Yes, it lacks the latest and greatest technology and resolution is lacking, but it gets the job done. What it needed was a BT and iPod kit that mObridge kit fixed!
Problem with going aftermarket is that you lose a lot of PCM specific functionalities of your car, such as Sports Chrono, Trip info, etc...
