Default Whistling Noise

I am new here and apologize if this has been discussed before, although could not find anything on this.

I have 2006 Carrera Coupe, at speeds of over 45 MPH with passenger side window down, I hear a constant whistling noise. It is not from the engine bay or A/C, just wind noise from the right mirror area.

One magazine article said the leading edge of the hood should be below the bumper level where they meet, if it is flush or higher, the noise is generated at high speed. Mine seems correct.

Does anyone else have this and what can be done besides keeping passenger side window up all the time?

It's the side mirror most likely.

Very Annoying.

I have this whistle too, but mine is when the passenger window is up. If I open the window even the slightest bit or tilt or open the sunroof the whistle stops.

Searches have revealed that this is a common issue and is REALLY difficult to fix. Some have fixed it with the above-mentioned mirror removal/caulking, but others have said that didn't work for them.

I'm just trying to ignore it for now, until I end up at the dealer for some other reason. I don't want to give up the car for whatever time it takes to find and solve this problem.

Do what everyone else is doing here, including myself, and do a muffler mod!
Drown it out

My Boxster had the same thing. I pulled the mirror, and used some clear silicone. No more whistling. It took me less than 30 minutes to do.

I just went ahead with the Sharkwerks/Fister mods. . Although the whistle can still be heard at lower RPM cruising. All joking aside, the mods were not done to drown out the whistling... But it does help a ton!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will tape up the mirror with blue painting tape and see if it fixes it before caulking it with silicone.

After my FVD exhaust mod... whistling has disappeared. In fact, the wifey and I are getting alone quite nicey now... she talks, I rev the engine and nod... I'm all smiles. Cheaper and much more gratifying than marriage counseling I would imagine.

I'd love to see pics of that procedure. If I can fix it myself that'd be outstanding. I just don't want to eff up my mirror...
