The 06 doesn't have the chrono, but does have the dash controls for selecting sport mode. The seller told me he got the sport suspension option, but not the chrono clock as he didn't care about that option. What is the difference between having vs not having the chrono?

The Seller is a friend who is willing to sell me the car for the exact resale price offered by a BMW/Porsche dealer. He knows they are offering a wholesale price, and is willing to sell it to me for whatever price they are willing to give him on the resale. I am totally confident there are no issues with the vehicle. My main issue is the PDK vs MT. I agree with one of the other posts about just along for the ride vs. being a driver.

That's actually pretty good. Sounds like that '06 has sports chrono w/o the "wart" as some would put it. Many here prefer a car without the chrono wart and we all like the suspension tuning and throttle responsiveness of sports mode. Now do either of these cars have the Porsche Sports Exhaust by chance... I'm definitely leaning towards the '06 now provided it has a clean PPI and DME report. BTW, have you driven both cars and especially the '06 with sports mode engaged? This is what sold me on the Carrera S... when I purchased my '08 997. GL.

PDK is an amazing transmission. If the car your considering does not have Sport Chrono, figure a couple grand to add this option. It's essential to enjoy the PDK.
You likely will have some warranty left on the 2009 as well, likely not on the 2006.
You're also in to the latest engine technology, and substantial difference in engine construction with the 2009. There is a HPFP recall, so make sure that's done.
Lastly, that's a good price and you know the history. You're in a enviable position. Good luck with your choice, as you can't go wrong either way.
BTW, I've owned a 2006, and now have a 2009. I enjoyed the 2006 immensely, but enjoy my 2009 PDK a little more.

i have a 2006 c2s cab and I'd pick the 2009 easy. I think for a 2009 that's a great price. You can easily justify spending sport chrono b/c u would be getting such a great deal.

i purchased a leftover 2008 lightly optioned mt cab in summer 2009. While it was a nice enough car to sell me on porsche, i found i really needed bluetooth and satellite radio, as well as full leather, to really enjoy the car. I ended up tradinng for a new gts last winter. You'll take less of a bath in the long run if you spend a bit more up front on a car that will keep you satisfied longer. Imo, of course.

Is 48K really wholesale for an 06 C2S? I know some who have been offered mid to high 30's for 06 C2's (admittedly with more miles, though). Seems a little high to me. Also, from reading this forum it seems that many would argue that 17K miles (or 2500 year) is a red flag for a car that's potentially 7 years old, and underuse can be just as bad as excessive miles.

This is easy. If you have no preference, choose the one that you will be able to sell tomorrow (or when you plan to get rid of the car) at the most profit or with the least effort to regain your investment. This way if you pick the "wrong" one, you have a better option to sell. If you need to, check trade in values in your vicinity for depreciation by years of ownership to determine at what year the car's value is the best for the dollar. I bet you it is about 6-7 years. If you think the prices are so low then you can retail the cars yourself. Take both, resell them and use the profit to get something else. I don't think that is possible though but I don't know your market, that is where you are or how many cars out there, the condition, color, etc. Then you can get into the old MT vs PDK argument. For me, $55K is NOT wholesale for the 06. Wholesale is probably closer to $48K-$50K. Your pricing is more like trade in value with profit for the seller, thus probably a soft retail price. Even at wholesale the 09 is 5-8k low. PDK is an automatic trasmission. My wife wouldn't let me buy that.

I wouldn't buy a 911 with an automatic transmission,but if you can live with it,I would take the '09 in a heartbeat!
IMO,always get the newest car you can afford.
Then there's the warranty,which can be very nice for piece of mind.
Then there's the price,48K for '06 doesn't sound that great to me,but 56K for '09 sounds like music to my ears if the car checks out!
And lastly,I'm a little surprised nobody mentioned the IMS,which was still present in the '06 model(with no warranty mind you!),but eliminated starting with the '09 MY.

It has just under 30k miles. I can buy it for what the dealer is offering to give him in a trade - $57k

VS. Choice 1, which is the '06 Cab S, 17,000 miles, new tires, serviced every year, sports chrono without the wart, and a MT, for $48k to $49k. Today's drive to work included a lot of stop and go taffic, and was thinking it would be nice to have a PDK instead of a clutch, but the 911 will not be my primary car (which is a 2012 A6 3.0T).
