Winter Wheels
Don't ask me why, but i'm starting to think about winter wheels.
I have an 07 C2S with 19" summer wheels, but i'll be using it as my DD in New England this winter. So i'm looking for a set of used 18" wheels; the manual says 8" with 57mm offset and 10" with 58mm. Any suggestions of where to find a set of used wheels?... i was surprised there wasn't much OEM inventory on ebay. since i'm in NE i'll be using this winter set for several months each year, thus i was looking for used OEM, but perhaps i should consider another option.
Also, does the offset need to match perfectly. There appear to be some 996 or Cayman wheels that are close.
Thanks for the help.

If your running high performance summer tires on your 19's then your "winter" wheels will be good to use once daily low temps are in the 40's. I don't think your jumping the gun by shopping now. Roughly 8 weeks before I make the 6 month switch to my "winter wheels". It's good to buy a nice set you enjoy since they will be on the car for such a long time.

Since these are tremendous winter driving cars (assuming the other cars can steer away from you!) I would recommend either the 18 or 19 inch wheels in a conservative width with the Michelin Alpin tire. The coupling of a seriously good winter tire with a rear engine/rear drive car is virtually invincible in the winter. If you toss a set of cable chains on all four tires there is little that can stop it, aside from too deep a snow pack! The Michelin Alpins benefit from a special rubber that contains sunflower oil which maintains more resilience in cold temperatures.

I run 18s and have never observed Porsche's recomended sizes (going back to 993)......I don't run wides in the back......we actually drive in real snow in WI.
Just a didbit of info if you stray from Pcar recomendations.......the 997II and the like need the 3% differential in height (rolling diameter) on the rears from the fronts. Actually anything close to 2.5% taller is enough. This is definately true on C4 as well as Turbo.
Offset?.......it's cosmetic, no significant effect on handling. Personally I space out my winter fitments just so they sit where they should in the wheel arch.

I drove my 996 (and E46 M3) in St. Paul, MN and ran both 18" and 19" in the winter. I found Pirelli Winter sports to be a good tire and Porsche recommended - not wider than 265 on the rears.

Victor wheels made by TSW, who are an OEM supplier to BMW, amongst others, are an excellent value wheel for POrsche's. They use orig bolts, no need for any centering rings or different bolts.
