I took my mufflers to local Mieneke shop and the shop manager said they can't do bypass muffler with stainless steel (they don't carry it, too expensive). He suggested to use regular metal/steel but he also cautioned it can corrode quicker compared to stainless.

What is consensus of owners who had the hack? Stainless v. Metal?

Thanks

Fedex the muflers to Fister and have him weld in the by-pass. Call around and see if any of the muffler shops have stainless.

Good...it doesn't need to be pretty to get the job done. Hope you like it. 1.75" pipe is the way to go.

Gundo's are done. Awaiting to be picked up from the shop. I can't wait after the install.

You're going to like them. What size pipe did they use?

2 inch pipe.

Should I paint it with VHT?

I used donor mufflers. I presume it is straight forward removal and install (for 997.1) 3 bolts from the bracket and the 2 bolts from the cat - muffler connection?

2" should be nice and loud. The VHT might work. You can get the ceramic stuff...just make sure the surface is good and clean. It'll probably flake off over time. The DIY looks acurate.

Does anyone know any reputable shops in the Inland Empire, CA that will perform this?

If you can remove the mufflers and take them to the shop yourself, any muffler shop can do this mod. Plus, you will save yourself a ton of money.

If you have the shop remove and reinstall the mufflers, then it's much more critical to find a place with a good reputation.

Is there a local PCA chapter there? I'd call someone in the club for a recommendation.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, there is a local PCA (Riverside) nearby. That is where I'll be assigned when I sign up. I got the car 2 days ago. I'd like have to have the shop remove and reinstall as I don't have the space to do the work myself. I'll look into the PCA. Thank you!

Shouldn't cost you more than $350-600 to remove, weld replace. My time is worth $1,000 per hour ( at least that's what i tell my wife) so for me to get frustrated in doing this, lying on my back, etc not worth it to me. Some things are satisfying to do however so pick your battles. Mine in Jersey cost $350 a few years back, all in by a guy that knew what he was doing and did it within about an hour while i waited and watched.
