The muffler is insulated from both the engine on the inside and the bumper cover/apron on the outside, with foil-type insulation.
There's quite a bit of insulation back there, actually.
Ceramic is cool, though, so do it for that!

Any C2 997.1 Cab owners out there who did the Gundo hack? Happy? Unhappy? Just curious because with the top down the Cabs have a more pronounced sound than with the top up (part of the reason I bought it !!)

My buddy has a C2 Cab with the Gundo and I was so jealous that I had to get mine done. They ship tomorrow from FD Motorsports. I got the chrome ceramic coating with 1.75" bypass. They should look and sound awesome. I'll post some photo's when I'm done.

Okay. Today I installed (about a 3 out of 10 in difficulty) my FD Motorsports hacked secondary mufflers. In combination with my Sharkwerks primary muffler bypass pipes the sound is simply incredible. Even my skeptical 15 year old daughter told me the sound is " bad ***". Don't even think twice- do it ASAP.

What is this Sharkwerks bypass. Is it for the 997.2?

The Sharkwerks cross pipes are designed to eliminate the primary muffler on a 997.2 car. The primary muffler is the sort of cylindrical shaped muffler that is behind the license plate in the center.
The 997.1 cars do not have that muffler. It was new for the 2009-2012 cars.

Eliminates the center silencer on 997.2 cars, via use of "X" pipes. This is not the primary muffler btw. Exhaust is routed through the side mufflers first, just like 997.1 cars, then through the silencer and out your tips.

The primary muffler is the 1st to receive the exhaust. It is the one that is bolted to the cats. The larger side (secondary) mufflers are then attached to the primary muffler with a collar. From there the exhaust flows through the side mufflers then out the exhaust tips. I did all of my exhaust work myself so I am very familiar with it!

I should have known, as I put Tubi on a couple weeks ago.
Duh....

If you're concerned about the exhaust being too loud at highway speeds I strongly suggest you have the job properly done by FD Motorsports. A Gundo hack is simply going to have a pipe randomly welded between the two muffler pipes. Darin Fister will do the job properly- 1.75" stainless pipe, welded properly and tuned to be only loud at 3500 RPM and higher. Trust me here- pay a little extra to have the job done right.

The install went well. Be prepared to replace some of the bolts. I actually replaced all of them with Stainless Steel Nuts, Bolts, Washers and Lock Washers from Lowes. Some pictures below:

Bad Gundo Hack Jobs
Example of Premium Work from FD Motorsports:
Examples of some poor jobs IMHO:
