Help me find a new/used 3.8L Engine
#16
WoW I'm really not coming up with much here.
A few "rebuilt engines" for around $25k, and one used one for $19k. Not having a core is really hurting me.
It might be cheaper to just sell the body and consider it a loss. To replace the engine is more than 1/2 the price the car is worth.
I've found completed sales < $8k but nothing current.
Anyone want a carrera S with a blown engine?

_properly_ built M97 engine from a good shop will last very long time.
rollers 997S do not cost much. racers do not use them, if you had 4S it would be slightly better as widebody tub matches cup and RS cars track, but narrowbody tub is not really in demand, so, you decide.
how did you manage to ruin a core? was it a broken rod after all? or a crack on 6th cylinder?
I also sent you PM some time ago - did you call that shop?

Seems a shame engines have to be so expensive and hard to find for these cars. Please don't chop my head off for this sugestion but try googling "Renegade hybrids". They can drop a crate LS V8 in it for a lot less. I don't know the price but the LS is bullet proof ,cost a lot less and is easy to work on. They have some videos on utube that look interesting.

That sucks man! It also SUCKS that Porsche doesn't help in any way whatsoever! I mean come one, 90% of the blown engines are because of IMS failures of the earlier IMS designs... those pre-2005 designs had to be recalled IMO! Now, they don't even try to do ****e to help Porsche owners?!
PS. Did you check with suncoast? Gotto be patient, I've seen engines come around once in a while, and if you found a core, I suggest to add the heavily discounted X51 kit from suncoast that includes airbox, cylinder heads, intake, etc... to go along with it.
PS2. You saw this, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...18a282&vxp=mtr

I don't think it was an IMS failure. I had the LN Engineering bearing in it.
I think it was a rod failure. I'm starting to find out a lot about these engines and weak rods/bolts.
I've seen both engines on e-bay. Both priced pretty high in my opinion. Especially for an engine that most likely has fundamental issues with its design.
The lower mileage one wants an additional $3000 for the core. ( I don’t think they would accept mine)
The other my work, but still seems pretty high for the mileage.
I guess at this point I’m looking for one of the following.
1) A lower priced used option <10k
2) A good rebuild option ~15k
3) Race level type engine (Possibly something like a Koni Challenge or something like that) This can be a 3.6 if it is built.
