Help me find a new/used 3.8L Engine
I need some advice on how to locate a new or used engine for my 2005 Carrera S.
Where should I look?
What prices should I expect to pay?

Uh oh, dare I ask why a new one is needed? I do recall that there is always an ad for a Porsche salvage warehouse in my Excellence magazine, although I don't have it with me this weekend so I can't recall the name. That's one idea to consider.

Any other places I should look for engines?

Absolutely no affiliation, but maybe they could point you in the right direction, or at least tell you who not to purchase an engine from if they have experience with some dismantlers... GL

Check Los Angeles Porsche Dismantlers. I have no personal experience with them so can't attest, but they buy and part out a lot of wrecked pcars out here in L.A.

WoW I'm really not coming up with much here.
A few "rebuilt engines" for around $25k, and one used one for $19k. Not having a core is really hurting me.
It might be cheaper to just sell the body and consider it a loss. To replace the engine is more than 1/2 the price the car is worth.
I've found completed sales < $8k but nothing current.
Anyone want a carrera S with a blown engine?

See my sig, I came to the same conclusion. Granted, the 996 is worth less (though so are the 3.4 motors) but when you have a blown motor and Porsche won't replace it, you're pretty SOL. If you're patient (I'm not) I'm sure something will come along. Best of luck whichever direction you go.
