Hi,
Let me start with an important disclaimer: i have 3 small kids (twins 3 1/2 years old, my oldest son is 7). I had 4 porsches and and M Roadster in the last 10 years. Love my boxster S and my 911's. But my 2009 Carrera S is not the most practical car for my family (it has sport buckets and SPASM, it's very noisy). So i am thinking of trading to a new 911 S (more confortable, still 4 seats) or even thinking of a more daddy like M5 (i also like very much the Audi S4). Anyways, my question is if anybody here has experienced the new M5 and what are your thoughts on the car. I tried a new BMW 650 and i was disapointed: fast but heavy and very "digital". The engine feel effective and powerful, but with zero emotion. I am concerned that an M5 would feel faster but equally disconnected from the driver....
Thanks,
Fernando

The M5 is not a 650... so no worries there... but I must say, for that kind of money, a Panamera sounds great (but still a 4 seater). It is also more unique an less associated with the Douche baggerie that BMW is normally associated with. However, if I were forced to buy a Beemer, it would be the M5. The Audi S4 is a great car, but not in the same class as the M5 or Panamera... Although it is not a bad option and is far cheaper than the previously mentioned.

M5 hands down. It's top of my list for next car. Amazing performance numbers and practicality for a 4door sedan. M5 is in another league when it comes to performance compared to a 991 Carrera.

Given the OP's need to fit 3 kids, I would choose the M5 too. But I'd expect the 991 to be in the same league as the M5. I'm quite surprised by your remark that the M5 is in another league. Please explain why.

997 or 991 run circles around any M series BMW, no comparison of performance.

I just sold my E39 M5. Great car, but it just sat in my garage, as I much preferred driving the 997. Even my 4 year old preferred the Porsche.
The E60 and F30 generate crazy stats but don't much interest me.

Keep the pcar. Teach your kids to say "vroom vroom". Great family car. At 7 and 10, my kids are already fighting over who gets the TT when they're 16.

Keep the Pcar. No question. Apply the RULE, yes RULE, of "There is no rule that you can't have more than one car". Buy an E39 M5 or and Audi A4 or a Cayenne - hey - there's a great idea. An SUV is a great second car for a 911. Great for kids, dogs, etc...

If the OP wants four seats and emotions, then, IMO, look no further than the Maser GranTurismo S. Makes the Panamera look rather, um, how to say, Panamera-like. Bimmers are a thing of the past-- like previously said, simply take a look at who's driving 650s; and the emotion factor of today's Bimmers? Please...
