I'm considering teaching someone how to drive a stick in my car....has anyone ever done it before? If so any problems?

Pros: if it's a really hot girl you're teaching, and you know for certain you'll get laid in return, a new clutch is cheaper than a high-class call girl.

Cons: Every other scenario except the above.

Pros....Now that made me smile........and recall the days when that would have been a possibility!!!

I guess I agree with the Cons.......I called Hertz and Enterprise for a rental with no luck!

Don't ever try to teach a GF how to drive a clutch, if (BIG "IF") you plan to marry her. Many years ago I tried to teach my-then GF, now wife, how to drive my VW GTI. It was almost the end to a beautiful relationship.

There are cheaper and easier cars to learn on. 911 took a little getting used to even after driving a stick for years.

This forum string makes me giggle. Funny stuff, and excellent points from Tom and NoHTwoO. My wife has actually asked that same question, and my response was something akin to "hell no." If she wants to practice on something, it won't be my 911.

Do it at the end of the life of your clutch.

I taught both my kids how to drive stick in a VW Jetta. Don't think I would have wanted to do it in my 3.2 Carrera or M3 at the time.....

no manual rentals around here so I bought a beater BMW 525i and used that to learn and teach wifey - then sold it on craigslist. big market for old cheap BMWs. total depreciation = gas + insurance, sold it for what I bought it for.

do it in a big parking lot without anything to run into.
