Hello
I am going to buy 997 and I found three cars.
2005 carrera S with 57k miles price 43k tilt tonic, xenon and navigation
2006 carrera 40k mile. $44k tip tonic. Navigation , no xenon
2008 carrera 35k mile $48k. Manual, xenon, no navigation
Can you give me some advices?
I like CS but 57k mile is it too much?
If I buy a car for other dealer, not Porsche, such as Audi, BMW ,
Can I trust those dealer?
My budget is 50k, could anyone give me some tips?
Thank you

Yes; please read up on the cars you are looking at so you know what is available and what they are selling for. This site has a ton of information and an educated buyer is the wise buyer. Tons of cars available, don't rush to drop 50K on the first one you see. Good luck. Personally I would go with a 997.2 C4S coupe.....

I don't think I've ever seen anybody here so indifferent to their 911 being an automatic or manual transmission. If you can drive a stick and you're not in stop in go traffic all the time I only see one choice.

The price is different according to kbb. For tip tonic and manual.
For driving feeling, I guess it is also different.
This is a very good website with a ton of information.

2008 carrera 35k mile $48k. Manual, xenon, no navigation... this one if it gets a clean PPI.
Tiptronic is a negative as compared to MT. If you really need automatic for-stop-n go traffic you may want to stretch and get a base '09 with PDK. Nav in the '05/06 is 6+ yrs old so really not a plus.

With the S you get more horsepower, upgraded suspension and brakes, same body.
The "base model" is still a performance machine, don't think for a second you're getting a second rate vehicle. Likely it will do for you.
Take cairo94507's advice, you can never do enough research. Hell I never stop reading about cars even if I'm not buying!

I would go for the 08 if I was in your case. Newer car, less mileage, and you get an awesome 6-speed manual gearbox. If this is going to be your only vehicle and you hate driving a stick in traffic, then maybe you can look into other options.

These clues are not enough to make a decision, you should see the cars personaly or even test drive them.
It seems that this few extra bucks are worth for the 2008 model which has revised IMS and manual tranny.

After having my 2006 S for 4 years, I realized there are a few options I wished I had and some I don't care about. The biggest decision first was manual or automatic, coupe or cab. I am one of those who wouldn't own a 911 with an automatic but that's just me. Since I will keep the car for a long time I didn't want to jump for a beautiful car in all other aspects ..with an automatic. i looked for a long time before I found mine. One thing I noticed was the navigation system is really awful in my view, and I can use my iPhone with Tom Tom and get what I need. About the only thing I miss is interior stuff like full leather. I really like the color I got and think in addition to the manual tranny...if I compromised on color I would be sorry about that decision. I looked at a lot of cars and wrote down those options/colors I really wanted and prioritized. I found that there are so many cars around you will eventually find what you want and given your budget, be happy with what you get. My car was a reward for years of hard work and I smile every time I start it up or drive it. My opinion is if you can, enjoy the search, really prioritize what you want and then go for it. I got mine when it was 3 years old with 15k miles...I thought that was ideal and had all the mechanical checks done by an impartial mechanic that I trusted. I would think a nice car with 30-40k miles is reachable for your budget.
Just another opinion.

I looked at 3 similar cars when I was shopping around. IMHO, I think the 08 is a better choice...slightly expensive but less miles. You did not mention if it's a CPO, might want to negotiate to CPO the car if you are buying form a Porsche dealership for peace of mind.
I recently purchased mine from Porsche dealership and I was amazed at the price mark-up. I ended up buying the car for less. Good luck.
