Default A Question of Chips

Has anyone here heard that Porsche and other manufacturers block access to full performance until the car has done 6K miles/10k km's? I'm curious to know if this is a) true b) common knowledge c) where, when and how is it communicated to owners?

Never heard of it. Engine 'feels' like pulling stronger at later miles as all internal parts get worked out to each other and get less internal friction after some initial miles.

I thought mine got better after the first year or so but it could have just been in my head.

I doubt there is a computer program to limit performance. There is probably a real gain from the parts wearing in and clearances opening up a bit.

I build heavy truck drive components and assemble gear reduction axles and there is quite a bit of friction loss in new components.

I disagree. I think it's true. For example, my 4S is programmed by Porsche to block access to the Reverse gear until I learn to parallel park.

Lexus LFA electronically limits the engine during the break-in period. Don't know about others such as Porsche.
