Understanding wheel offsets...
Does anyone have a simple explanation of wheel offsets? I'm looking at a used set of Champion wheels for my 2006 C2S that came off of a Cayman.
2 Champion RG 5 Wheels 19 x 10 plus 58
2 Champion RG 5 Wheels 19 x 8.5 plus 49
Thanks in advance...

Hey Joel,
Front would fit fine - slightly more aggressive offset, around 2 mm compared to your stockers
Rear I wouldn't touch because they are 10" wide compared to your 11" stockers.....nice rims tho, I gather your rim shopping for the spring. Which ones are you targeting?

Most of the time the offset is stamped or cast into the back of the wheel on a spoke or at the hub.
Not sure about the order of diameter vs width but the last number is offset 18 8J ET 45 for example would be an 18 inch rim 8 inches wide with an offset of 45mm.

I LOVE the Champion RG5's - very classy and light but expensive. These are $1800 with a couple of scuffs that can be cleaned up but if they're not the right size then so be it...

If I keep this car, and skip the upgrade to a 997.2 for another year or so then I'd like to do the exhaust, the wheels, possibly the suspension and I've just discovered the RennList Part Classified. Holy crap! Great deals!

Joel ,
There is also the member to member for sale forum in case you did not know. I got other wheels for my car ; 2 sets thru Rennlist including 18s for the track. Kept my OEMs for the future. Now getting challenged for storage space. LOL
Good luck with whatever you do.

I'll check this out. Thanks. Yes - storage for all this stuff can be a problem. I think MCL here has WINTER tire and wheel storage.

If you have Porsche wheels, the widths and offsets are stamped on either side of the valve stem, For example, the C2S OEM 19 inch wheels are probably stamped 8 to the left of the valve stem and 57 to the right for the front wheels and 11 and 67 for the rear. Plug those into the calculator I linked before and compare to the aftermarket wheels you're looking at and you'll be able to see what the effect of the change will be.
