Someone mentioned $995 for an oil change at Power Porsche in Newport Beach, CA... where I purchased my car two years ago. Had I known this upfront I would have pan'd the old oil for gold before I disposed of it.

Crazy prices out there in NYC. At the dealer it's around $200, at an Indy it's around $135 here in Colorado.

I wish the oil changes were more expensive here, that way I could look like I was saving even more money doing it myself

I just changed the oil on my turbo. What a breeze after 3 air-cooled 911s! Didn't even have to put the car on a lift!

Oil (Mobil 1 0W-40): $90
Filter and washers: $12
TOTAL: $102

Time: 1 hour because I've never done it before and had my laptop on the trash can as a reference. It can be done in 45 minutes.

I just changed the oil/filter on my 2006 CS a few days ago and my costs were less than $60...got a great deal on the mobile-1

It's really easy folks! Read over the DIY's and go from there.

I got mine done at the dealer for I think it was $360 tax in at Pfaff Porsche, this also included inspection of various components so adds to labour rate. I also changed it myself for just over $100 not incl. first time tools required, dead easy to do , looking forward to the next one.

this would require the purchase of a durametric. but by looking at these prices it easily is justifiable...

Why do you need Durametric to change your oil?

I am under the understanding that your service counter needs to be reset with a durametric. Is there another way? thanks.

Other than the p-dearler PIWIS tool the Durametric tool is the only other tool that I know off that will reset the "service needed" message after the car has hit it's oil service interval. It also has other uses... as a tool for troubleshooting and more significantly it allows you the ability to gain some independence from the p-dealer.

As a condition of purchase, the p-dealer I purchased my car from replaced my car's leaking RMS. They had to dump the existing oil then add another 8 qtrs after installing the new seal as noted within the service order. And yet a month and only 500 miles later my "need service oil" interval indicator lite up. So the p-dealer I purchased the car from in SoCal did not(forgot maybe?) reset my car's service counter. Now I had to plead with my local p-dealer to reset the service indicator. They wanted $175 initially to hook her up to their PIWIS. "But bring in your service records, our earliest scheduled appointment is next week, we'll see if we can wave this but no guarantees"... instead I just went ahead and purchased the Durametric tool for $250. Started doing my own oil changes. Oil changes are inexpensive to DIY relative towards p-dealer changes... In financial terms I've been able to do more frequent changes. Every 3K miles vs. the minimal 12K miles changes required by Porsche for my '08 C2S. BTW, I recall that Porsche had set the '07 997.1 oil change intervals to 20k miles... most likely to meet some type of CAFE standards and not necessarily a good thing for the engine.

Since purchasing the Durametric Enthusiast tool ~2 yrs ago I've used it to reset the oil internal, reset CEL's after a dyno run, and to troubleshoot an initial issue with my recent state required annual safety/emission test. But as a DIYer it's an essential tool for my 997 plus the independence from the p-dealer is priceless. BTW, I have no affiliation to Durametric.

Father and Sons in Springfield, MA charges $210 and $200 for a brake flush. I think for a Dealer that is not bad at all, while under warranty I intend to use them. I will get that, the inspection, ect done once a year, I would rather have my car looked at by someone certified once a year especially while under CPO. Well worth the extra $100 or so instead of doing it myself. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't because I knew I was taking into the dealer after hibernation for the annual maintenance. I changed the oil in early December, put the car away first week of Jan and took it into the dealer couple weeks ago. Likely the Dec oil change was a waste, but I was excited to try it.

I think I'll have to get the Durametric tool to reset the minder.

$294 at Paul Miller in NJ. I'm taking mine in even though I can do it myself since the car is still under CPO. I wouldn't want dealer to give me a hard time if anything arises.

It also give me the opportunity to browse the sales lot and maybe test drive a 991.
