Price of an oil change in NYC - $200-$520(+ tax)?

Has anyone ever compiled a spreadsheet of typical repairs / service jobs, and how much various shops charge for them (or at least a ballpark figure for each one)?

Out of curiosity, I just rang half a dozen garages in the tri-state area, asking for a quote on an oil change w/ including filter on a 2006 997 S, and got a dizzying range of quotes (official dealers underlined):
  • Rennwerke (Elmsford, CT): $200 + tax
  • Morton Competition (Stamford, CT): $240 + tax
  • Jack Daniels Porsche (Upper Saddle, NJ): $260 + tax
  • South Shore Porsche (Long Island, NY): $300 + tax
  • Danbury Porsche (Danbury, CT): $350 (inc. tax)
  • Town Motors Porsche (Englewood, NJ): $350 + tax
  • Formula Motorsports (Long Island, NY): $360 + tax
  • Roslyn Porsche (Long Island, NY): $405 (inc. tax)
  • Manhattan Motorcars Porsche (NYC): $520 + tax

Granted, I didn't specify a particular brand of oil, but this still seems like a ridiculous variance on such a standard job?

Disclaimer: Rennwerke is my usual shop, which may account for the lower price

My guess is that the oil change price correlates to the average porsche owner income in the area

What the market will bear and all that

You got that right!

Wow....that is expensive. It's like $175 here in Nashville.

C'mon up to Ct for a few hours.
Give Auto Associates in Canton a call.

Most independent porsche shops charge between 150 to 200. Most franchise dealers charge $250 and up (unless they are running a loss leader special). The numbers you quoted from Mark at Formula Motorsports seems too high (just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt) and Rosyln numbers are insane. But deep pockets pay deep prices.

Thanks for the free market research on Porsche oil changes in NYC. Eflight is absolutely correct in geographic location will play a large part in something such as an oil change price. For obvious reasons a shop in Manhatten or in the immediate area will have to charge more than others. You do pay a slight premium for location as rent/property tax is much higher along with other costs of doing business. It has been my experience that a price of around 340 is pretty much the going rate for an exclusive Porsche shop with good location and experienced technicians. Thanks for the vote of confidence mjsporsche!

Certainly having an experienced technician of which there are some to choose from in the NYC area is the way to go, as they will of course look over the entire car for any other issues or proactive service.

Mark likes to quote high on the phone for some reason...

Or change the oil and filter yourself for ~$75... there are plenty of DIY write-ups re this on the forum.

Wow, I had my 20,000 mile service done in Florida for just a little over what Manhattan charges lol. And that included a PCCB brake flush. It's the labor rates from what I understand.

bring it to my house in clifton, nj and I'll change it for $30 over the price of oil/filter

Try New Cannan Foreigh Car at $120. They have been in business since 1965.

Just a quick note.. Rennwerke is located in Elmsford, NY not Tarrytown..

Steve in Saratoga Springs, NY
