Rule #1 when getting gas in JERZ. Get out of the car and control the situation. You are in charge not them. Don't go to busy stations. I will start putting in my credit card and have the pump in most of the time before they tell me I can't do it. I tell them I don't mind doing it. Be polite and act like you didn't think it was a problem. Tipping can help if you have a station you are going to be going to frequently.

Three more things to dislike about NJ as a car guy:
1. Having to wait on someone pump your gas and then worry about them slamming the nozzle into the filler neck....(two reasons why I pumped it myself when I was there).
2. Front plates
3. Emissions inspections and big ugly stickers on windshields.

We have #2&3 here as well. Front plate is a fix-a-ticket so I never drive with it on... just keep it in the car JIC. Emission is light weight compared to some other states like California. At least my last forced induction M3 had no issues. We get two ugly stickers - safety and registration.
