My 996 X50 (ECU flash, exhaust, CF airbox, Motons, etc) puts a very reliable 450hp plus at the wheels. The full CF interior is nothing short of amazing.
A friend who is an excellent driver (races a 964 with NASA) had a nice 997S. He took one drive on mine and traded his car for a 996 GT2. Just saying...

996TT, the engine is about the only thing I liked on my 03 X50. I like the slightly wider cockpit, and the linear feel of a NA engine of a 997 .
Back roads were not as much fun for me with a turbo, but that's just me.
Bang for the buck? 996TT wins in many matchups, and $50K will buy a very nice 996TT. The interior is subjective for most. I remember questioning in my head that the car didn't live up to the $130K price tag in interior refinement.
You can't get hurt too bad on a mid $40k 996TT, resale wise, but watch out on getting one that looks like a Mercedes Benz on the inside with all the wood...it might be hard to resell.

997, hands down. Can't stand the appearance of the 996, especially the interior - which is what you have to look at most of the time anyway. I'll refrain from posting ugly 996 pics this time.
Other factors - it can be difficult in finding a good used 996 with one (or few) owners. Better odds with 997's for avoiding that. I just think you're multiplying odds of buying a car with problems when it has had 3-4+ owners, regardless of any inherent issues with one model or another. This is a new era of idiot drivers whose egos far exceed their driving abilities, and mods done by people who don't really know what they're doing (and put back to stock for resale).

You may want to check the insurance rates on the Turbo. I was amazed how high AAA quoted me (good driving record) for coverage - far higher than for a GT3RS that was 3 years newer!

996TT (Pros): Mezger engine, turbos, bottom of depreciation curve,
996TT (Cons): Less chassis rigidity, styling (subjective), fit and finish
997C4S (Pros): Styling (subjective), fit and finish, newer 911.
997C4S (Cons): IMS engine issues, heavier car with AWD, and Do you need AWD in Dubai?
The cars are so different that it will be purely a subective purchase....
What are your intended use cases for the car (track, daily-driver, etc.)

Had exactly the same dilema, 996tt vs 9974s, after trying the 997.2 choice
Was easy, 9974s. More modern, engine sounds better, more quality in the interior, with PDK it can be faster than the 996tt. 385 hp its more than enough. And with the 991 being a "nineamera" theres a chance the 997 will become a future Classic. But the 996tt is also an Awesome car. My advise, try both And Get the one You prefer driving.

It was surprising but insurance for my '08 C2S was the same as my outgoing 10 year old '98 M3 with Allstate. Go figure...

996TT is the best bang for your buck for performance. I just had mine flashed by UMW and damn she's fast.
997C4S is a great looking and performing car but we all have our personal wants and needs when it come to cars & bikes.

Very close call. I myself was looking at these two cars as well, and ended up with the 997 C4S. Get one with a factory aero kit and PSE if you can, people will give you a thumbs up all day long.

997 all the way, hate to say it but the 996 is hideous inside and out. I know it's an older car and it looks okay for it's time but that time has past. The 997 looks so much more updated.

I am one of the few that actually LOVE the headlights on the 996. They just look futuristic and more modern. I do not like the LED front lights on the 997.1....they look so out of place but they look much better on the 997.2.
The 996 and 997 interiors are both dated IMO. 997.2 interior is much better. If possible, I would try and get 2009 C4. Maybe around $60k if you can spend that.
