Default 991 vs 997 in the flesh

Went to the launch - it was crowded with little kids sitting in the drivers seats. While I was waiting to sit in one, a kid spilled a soft drink on the ventilated seats! It soaked in really thoroughly - I would not want that car. I did not want to sit in one anymore. I looked under the engine bay - big disappointment. What is with the twin fans on top, this is not an air cooled motor. It looked like the cheap fan mounted in my dormroom window in college. Then I looked at the ridiculous sunroof in the open position. It looked like an older gentleman wearing a tennis visor on a sunny day. A 997 carrera 4GTS was parked at the other end of the showroom, what a stunning car. 991 looks better in pictures, up close it looks like aunt Edna.

I beleive that they designed the new 991 in a stagnent global economy catering for the majority of people who can afford them. 50+ more of a comfort car.

That car will be discounted soon. Free mints included in cupholder.

Yes - The kids were playing with the handbrake button. They should consider bringing back the tiptronic on this one with a column mounted shifter like in the old Caprice Classics.

The ventilated seats have much weaker leather; the leather will wear out much sooner because of the perforations.

I'll pile on, did you see the filter change thread? you have to take the car apart to get at the air filter! I fear 911 as we know it is gone. 991 is too stretched in my opinion.

991 is a huge improvement. I really like what they've done. Perfect.

wider front end, lighter materials, vastly improved engine in such a short time period (under 6 years), more a "mid-engined" set up. The engineers did their job as far as the time sheets.

but that doesn't really look a Carrera anymore.

you're right, it looks more Panamera-esque than like an old school air cooled 911.

still, I think it's a great car.

Saw it yesterday. It puts the 997 to shame.

"Aunt Edna" would have been the 2012 turbo cab sitting on the same showroom floor looking dated.

356 guys look down their noses at long hoods
3.2 Carrera guys sneer at mid-years
993 guys mock the 964
997 guys can't stand the 996
997.2 guys feel sorry for the 997.1

The progression continues...

I particlularly feel sorry for those who sprang for the GTS instead of waiting for the 991. (and I have no dog in this fight as I have neither - yet).

+1
While the GTS is a nice car, i'd feel pretty crappy if i'd bought one recently.
