Default Key won't release following flat battery recharge and use of metal skewer!

Hi everyone,

A small irritating issue that I have searched for but can't find the answer so I wondered if anyone could help. My battery went flat so I followed instructions and released the hood with a donor car/battery and some jumper leads - all good.

Then I couldn't get the key out so I used the little metal skewer that comes with the car that you insert into a hole in the barrel. I then charged the battery up to full strength over 48 hours, started the car no probs but key would still not automatically release. So I then went for a 2 hour drive thinking that might reset the system or something to no avail.....I'm sure the battery is fully charged as it's on a maintainer, etc...

So does anyone know whether I need to take the car into Porsche to have this resolved / reset or is there a simply procedure that I am missing?? Does it rely on the key battery??

Not very cool to have to look like you're hot wiring the car every time!!!!

Cheers

sorry I should have clarified that I can get the key out using the metal skewer, but it won't revert back to the normal way if I put it in and start the car again, etc....

I'm not familiar with the metal skewer you refer to; don't think there's anything like that for the 997.2. My guess would be, though, that by using that device you've tripped something inside the ignition lock that will have to be reset. Hopefully someone will have a definitive answer for you.

have you used the fob to remotely lock or unlock since the battery was dead?

The 997.2 does have the metal "scewer" (look in the fuse cover). I'm sure that you've done this but did you put the little plastic tab back in the surround ring. If it is not exact the key won't come back out.

Yes the fob buttons do their job. I will try the little black cover as suggested. It would be great if that was the missing link! Thanks

Rule one is put everything back just where it was. Especially with Porsche, even the most innocuous plastic bits can have critical functional values.
