My entire BB phonebook syncs with the PCM just fine, but if using the toggle under the turn signal to search through the phonebook, I am limited to 0-9 A-D.
In other words, after engaging phonebook at the on-board computer display, if I hold the toggle arm down it will toggle through the first couple of numeric numbers in my phonebook, and (still holding it down) it will go to "1" then "2"...all the way through "9" then "A" then "B" then "C" then "D", then back to "1". It completely skips the rest of the alphabet. This cycle continues if you keep the toggle arm in the down position at "phonebook".
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I know the rest of my phonebook entries are loaded and updated in the PCM, but I cannot get the on-board computer display to index anything beyond "D" entries.
I'd suspect a limit in size. I can imagine the on board computer interface designers never envisioned 3000+ contacts needing to be scrolled through. It may limit what it can do to 1024 entries or something and is just stopping import when it fills up the cars phonebook storage capacity. Yeah, its Y2K like thinking on the part of the developer to say "no one will need more than X entries", but you do have to draw a line somewhere and sometimes the developers draw the line poorly. That said, I'm guessing its the size issue.. it may well be something entirely different. Try temporarily removing a contact from the front and see if you get an additional contact uploaded into the D's of your phonebook that wasn't there before... That would definitively tell you its the # of entries that is causing the problem.
dealership just called and informed me the limit is about 250 contacts. Also told me that certain characters can screw with the on-board performance (like *, @, etc.)
If the whole thing is available via PCM despite the 2540ish (8 bit indexing) capability, and you have voice control on the car, you could try dialing via voice control. I guess you just cannot go through your industry-wide rolodex while driving otherwise.
