car in the garage for 3 weeks: recommendation
hi,
I will be gone for the next 3 weeks. Car will sit in the condominium garage. Any suggestions? Is this long enough time to worry?
Thanks,
Fernando

I returned to an almost dead battery from a 3-week trip a few years ago. Had zero issues starting the car prior to the trip but maybe that battery wasn't a good proxy being almost 3 years old at the time. These cars do use battery power when parked though whether you have something plugged in or not. After that incident I disconnect the battery when traveling for more than two weeks. If you go that route, DON'T close/latch the front hood since none of the release buttons work without battery power. If you feel that you have to close the hood being in a condo garage you'll need jumper cables and another battery to get the front hood open. Go to your fuse panel and look for a red bar in the upper right hand corner. That pulls out and you attach the + jumper cable to it.

+1 on sandwedge, or as suggested above, get a trickle charger (battery tender) if you have electrical access in your condo garage and plug it in before you leave. These cars love to eat batteries.

If you have a Trickle Charger throw it out. They are out dated. A battery tender monitors the battery voltage and shuts effectively off when the battery is fully charged. A trickle charger puts out about 2 amps forever. If left on for an extended period it will boil away your electrolyte.
