Default Ipod Display 997.2

Now that my car is away for the Winter, I never had much time to mess around with the Ipod set-up.

When the Ipod is hooked up does it show up on the main display, and be controlled by "touch screen" , or only controlled directly from the Ipod itself.

Cheers

On the touch screen just like all the other functions. Go to the "source" button on the PCM, select ipod and you're there.

My ipod nano did not charge up via the port. I was able to fix thanks to this forum. If you have a newer ipod you'll need to buy an adapter by scosche(sp?)...they sell it at the apple store. Now my ipod charges when the car is off...and not when the car is off..so doesn't kill battery.

Any iPod (old or new) charges perfectly when the Y-cable Din plug + USB plug are connected. No need to use any third-party component.

If only the Y-cable had USB pass-through so you could still plug in a memory stick...

The older non-y cable doesn't provide power to the iPod when the car is off and key removed. Thats why the iPods would run out of juice and reboot when you finally got in the car again after a week or so of non-use.

Does either of the y-cable or scosche adapter allow the iPod to go to sleep properly?

The Scosche allows the ipod nano to sleep just fine- I've been using it problem free for about a month. It works just like having a 16GB hard drive built right into the PCM. I never have to mess with it unless I want to update the playlists on it.

The new Ipod Nano's don't have a usb port and since the power in the "Y" connector comes through the usb you have to buy the adapter for the ipod nano to work.
According to the representatives in the apple store Apple changed the pin's on the newer devices 2010+ devices and most car companies have not updated their cables yet to the new pin locations. So you have to buy this:

Thats not how the y-cable is used. The y-cable plugs the USB part into the USB port on the CAR's universal audio interface. The ONLY thing you plug into the iPod is the apple interface end. That should work on your Nano the same as any other iWidget.

For what the apple store person said, I'm not sure that is accurate as the 2009 model year cars came with the non-y adapter that wanted to use the 12v FireWire charging pin in the iDock connector, but newer existing iWidgets of the time (in 2008) already had dropped the 12v firewire charging pin... well in advance of 2010.

I'll have to give it a try to see if I wasted $20!

Ok, so at some point in the 09 model year they changed to delivering the y-style adapter.

However, the point was the iwidgets (ie Apple) had dropped 12v charging pin from the idock connector well before that.... not as claimed in 2010.
