Question Sport Classic

Anyone know if any of those grey Sport Classics with the ducktail ever made it to the U.S. after the fact?

Seem to recall seeing one at Rennsport IV but it may have been shipped in from Europe to display.

Here's a link to the car in Houston:

Bob Ingram, from Durham, NC drove his to a First Saturday Cars & Coffee a couple months ago. I took a few photos.. I love the car.. between the Sport Classic and the 4.0 I'm not sure which one I like better.

The photos don't do it justice.

Outrageously overpriced. I'd rather have a GT2 for less $$$.

^ I agree. A Carrera GTS is a much better value for money option, IMO.

If I had the means, I'd buy one in a heart beat. It's probably the one 997 model that will surely hold its value well over time. Hard choice vs. a GT2 RS, but if I were that rich, then I'd just get both.

I would say just the opposite - it may end up as the worst depreciating Porsche of all time. Nothing at all to justify the 100% price premium over a GTS. Over time, paint/upholstery/stripe packages are not worth more than standard cars of equal mileage/condition, regardless of production numbers.

I think some of you guys miss the point. For the well-heeled, 'exclusivity' means everything. Owning one of 250 very collectible 997 911s gives the owner a certain sense of panache when he arrives at an event, knowing well that the odds are in his favor that he won't see another car like his.

I have no doubt that the car will depreciate like mad the first couple years, but like most collectibles, in 20 or 30 years they'll be back up where they were 'new', or maybe higher.

You guys will have to tell me about it on the other side.. I'm 62, so the odds are I won't be around to see it for myself.
