is there a difference between the GT3 shifter vs the Porsche OEM short shifter kits? If so, which do you think is better?
The 997.1 GT3's have the same shifter as all stock 997 shifters (997.424.010.00). When I tried a 997.1 GT3 shifter, it has shorter throws than a 997, which means the difference is at the transmission end. 997.2 GT3's use a different shifter altogether (997.424.010.91) and since I haven't driven one, I can't comment on this. The OEM short shifter for all 996, 987, 997 has the same part number (997.424.983.00). Bottom line is you can't just compare the shifter feel of a GT3 with a regular 997 (factory or SSK) since the transmission/gearbox is different. If somebody has put in a newer GT3 shifter (997.424.010.91) in a 997, maybe they can tell you what it's like.

Wannabe.....
Please post your impressions after the OEM short shifter is installed. I had installed the B&M SSK on my 2004 C2 and liked it, but is was a little more "notchy" than the stock OEM shifter. I would like to know if the short shifter is almost as smooth as the stock shifter.
OEM is good, B&M (we carry) does the trick, a bit tighter and shorter than the OEM. Either will do it, depends on how much you want to spend, and if you can handle the breakout of the plastic bushings to use the machined ones on the B&M.
I've used both, both are quite nice.
Having had both, I tend to think the opposite. The B&M is not as tight as factory in my experience, but both are big improvements.
I had the OEM SSK installed before my last DE and it's great. The best I can describe its feeling is "mechanical and deliberate", like a rifle bolt closing.

Tim, I'll throw my 2 cents in here. I just installed my OEM short shifter a few weeks ago, and I can tell you that it does increase whatever "notchiness" you already have with your current transmission. As you know, every car (and gearbox) can feel a little different, and it also depends on whether your transmission is warm/cold, new/old. So unless one compares the B&M kit to the OEM kit in the same car back-to-back, it's hard to say whether one is smoother than the other. The short shifter merely changes the fulcrum of your shift lever, thus requiring more effort but shorter throws. Before I installed the SSK, I took off the centering tool and I could move the shift lever around freely - no resistance whatsoever, so whatever notchiness one feels comes directly from the gearbox. If you already have some notchiness with your stock shifter, this will be more noticeable with the short shifter due to the greater effort required. With this being said, I still would not go back to the stock shifter.
couple of questions regarding the Porsche SSK Kit, if I purchase from Suncoast or another dealer will my local dealer install? If I get an indy to install does that void any warranties?

Thanks again
Your dealer should install it without a problem. If an indy installs it, ir if you install it, it will not void your warrnaty.
Ordered the SSK from Sunset and the Rennline mesh grilles, haven't decided if I should take them to an Indy shop or dealer for install, any suggestions?
I'm thinking Hergesheimer in Lake Forest for the indy and Walters or Hoehn for the dealers? Any feedback in pricing?
