What did you do to your 997 today?

By fixed I imagine you mean replaced the gauge cluster ...

Installed 993RS engine mounts into new to me 997.2 C2 6MT with ~80k. Noticed a fair bit of vibration at idle, enough to visibly shake the passenger seat. When turning the car off, there was an obvious rocking side to side on the engine mounts. A search here suggested that if you had an exhaust tip hanging a bit lower than the other, that was another indicator of a worn mount. Sure enough the driver side mount was a little lower than the other.
Considered the Rennline mounts, but as with other makes/models, it seems like a good percentage of users end up finding them too uncomfortable for everyday use. In some of my previous cars, a Subaru STI and a few MX5's, the factory offered solid rubber mounts that were standard design, but with a higher durometer/stiffness, and they were great upgrades. Minimal increase in NVH, but noticeably better performance. I had an E30 that used hydraulic mounts almost identical to the stock 997's, and those I replaced with the solid rubber mounts from an older E21 3 series. Very happy with that outcome as well.
What I wasn't too excited about was the cost of Porsche stamped 993RS mounts, so I took a chance on URO branded versions. For installation hardware I used OEM cup washers, but opted for generic 5mm washers and M12 bolts. Pelican had the suggested m12 x 135mm bolts for a reasonable price, but with four of the 5mm washers plus shipping, it was going to be almost as much cost as the URO mounts. I'm glad I went generic with the bolts - I ended up getting M12-1.75 x 150mm, and I'm not sure 135mm would have been long enough - it would have been close.
Motor mount replacement was a complete breeze, easiest I've ever done. And the results - wow. Felt like a different car. Far from adding vibration at idle, it was all but gone. Cornering was significantly improved. Shifting was a bit more precise, but the first change I'd made to this car last month was a B&M shifter, metal shift cable end link, and weighted ****. Those changes were such a night and day difference to the tired factory shifter that the benefits of the mounts was incremental at best. Overall could not be happier. We'll see how the URO's last, but if they are short lived I'd have no problem paying for factory versions. I'm sure the Rennlines, WEVO's et all have their charms, but I can definitely recommend the RS rubber for a street driven car.
Next up is replacing the inner and outer tie rods. I have a pretty wicked steering vibration between 60 and 70mph. Steering gets looser, it feels darty, and tramlines on any road ruts. Could be front wheel balance, perhaps LCA's or a shock mount. Couldn't for sure feel play when I shook the wheels with the car on a jack, but the tie rods will have to be replaced soon enough anyway even if they're not at fault here. Will get the front wheel balance checked at the alignment afterwards.
Merry Xmas everybody

Hi Mate,
Merry Christmas from Australia!
just a quick question regarding the engine mounts, are they actually for a 993RS and they just happen to fit your 997.2 C2s?
Or, are they "RS Style" mounts that are made to fit a 997.2?
I can't seem to get a straight answer, just by looking at the online seller websites, there's nothing about cross compatibility.
Cheers,
Craig A

Installed my Christmas present to me, an OEM Short Shifter (SSK). Very easy install, took about 2.5 hours. Used this youtube video for help on the install.
It's done on a Boxter, but the layout is common to the 997. Huge improvement on feel and throw, motion is much more precise. Excellent bang for the buck, I would definitely recommend this upgrade. Best price is at Suncoast Porsche, $429.

They're actually originally from a 964 Carrera RS but are a popular upgrade on 993's too. Not designed to fit the 997, but Porsche has used the same engine mount design for seemingly forever so they bolt right up. You will need new bolts & washers as Hass indicated. I bought all Porsche hardware and spent a small fortune lol.

Surprises abound, take the time to check your car out.
First P car for me. Removed air box to facilitate routing of PSE vac lines, learned me some stuff, I did.
Chipped plastic pulley on PS pump.
Looks like at one stage, the intake boot was not fitted to the throttle body properly. Obviously for an extended period of time. Note distorted rubber.
Random bits of trash can hide anywhere. These were lurking deep under the plenum.

Size matters right?
Fitted genuine PSE mufflers from a wreck, but the budget hasn’t stretched to genuine $1000 tips, so I found some $10 stainless ends and $5 clamps to keep it all together. Personally, I’m not any lesser a person, and I kinda like the pea shooter look.

I have some genuine PSE tips in my garage somewhere that I would let go for a reasonable price ie way less than $1000. PM me if you’re interested.

Had SunTec Ultra PPF applied to the front cap ( windshield forward ), mirrors, A pillars and stone guards on my new to me 09S. Not usually a fan of film or coatings but the previous owner (one owner) had PPF on the front cap for the life of the car then removed it when I got it - so the white paint is pristine. Just decided to keep it that way. Decided against ceramic coating, just not interested ( purely subjective ) but that could change at some point I suppose. Houston PPF did the work, highest rated shop in town from what I could dig up on yelp and other places. They do the P dealers work and had a '17 Ford GT they were doing in the shop. Perfect job if anyone in Houston is interested.
