If the car does not come with the mounted timer, are you sure you can purchase it seperately to retrofit? I would think it is going to be a lot of work.
I know you can purchase the timer IF your car already have it mounted and maybe it was spoilt. But to drill a hole into the dash seems quite a feat.

Does it change the mapping in the ecu or just opens the throttle faster?
"A modified throttle map relates the pedal angle in the footwell to a much wider angle of opening on the throttle valve. Throttle response is significantly more immediate, "

So Haivie did you end up doing the sport button retrofit? I live in Toronto and when I called the Porsche dealerships they also told me they haven't heard about this retrofit. I found this very strange! Does anyone know who would do this install in the Toronto area?

Here too. Well worth the circa $900 it cost installed. Can't say what to do about dealers so poorly trained they don't know how to do the install. Maybe find one you trust in other matters and persuade them to research the question. I had mine done by the shop foreman, at my request, and he said it wasn't a big deal although he hadn't done one before doing mine.
I don't care to get into explanations of ECU maps, but the option does more, even on a manual transmission car. Probably the most easily felt difference is the PASM control logic.
Too bad I had to sell that coupe. It was great to drive with MPSS tires and sport chrono software active. In one track session, I inadvertently left it off and for two laps I thought something was wrong with the car or with me. It makes that much difference.

I find I use it more for the handling change when I know I'm going to be cornering hard. If your car does not have PASM (optional), the sport mode will not affect your handling.
Not sure I'd get it ONLY for throttle response.

It does affect the PSM. It's a must in my opinion for anyone who has a Tiptronic with no sport mode. Well worth it for the shifting, PSM tolerance, and throttle response.

The change it makes for a PDK is awesome and i couldnt imagine owning the car without it.
