Default Carfax - Is this a red flag for a CPO 997?

Pulled the carfax on a 06 C2S. In one repair, this was done. The car only has 15K miles and the dealer is about to CPO it with my deposit.

Any ideas what this could have been for? Unfixable leak?
Thanks in advance.

Transmission removed to complete repair
Engine/powertrain computer/module checked
A/C and heating control assembly checked
Engine cleaned
Clutch release bearing replaced
Transmission checked

I'd say that CPO trumps Carfax.

There are people on this forum way more technically endowed than I am but removing the transmission in an 06 is required to replace the IMS. This is a good thing if this in fact what was done! It is unlikely that the clutch or flywheel would have to be replaced at 15k.

You can't replace the IMS on an '06 without engine dis assembly.

It was most likely a leaky RMS. Not a big deal. If the job was done under warranty any Porsche dealer can give the details.

I'd put a lot more faith in that CPO warranty than any CarFax report.

Well, I had the dealer fax me the service history, looks like the transmission removed to complete repair was done as part of the 20K mile maintenance dealer service (even though the car only had 15K miles).

So I'm guessing maybe they caught an RMS leak and repaired it? Shouldn't be a deal-breaker right?

No biggy. CPO will back you up.

I'd go forward with the purchase.

in the first place, you should go to porsche and see what that repair was and how it was fixed. sounds like you got a problem fixed for free

Use it as a negotiating point with the dealer. If you have to sell to another buyer later down the road... there would be a lot of splaining to do because of carfax. And not everyone would research this out on RL to determine that it's no big deal.

Saw similar wording in a 07c2s I looked at - it had an rms leak that was fixed by dealer under warranty. It was leaking again about a yr layer and I passed on it.

It could be a leaking rms or ims seal. It was SOP to replace both seals even if only one was leaking due to the difficulty in getting to the seals. There is lots of information about the evolution of the seals if you search. I had a leaky rms replaced under warranty and they also replaced the ims seal. Guess what - the ims seal then started leaking because they nicked it when they installed the new one.

This is true - however the IMS seal can be replaced without cracking the engine.

Thanks everyone. So I went through the service history a bit deeper and I see that the transmission was removed for service due to the customer stating 'there is a screeching noise when clutch in engaged'...

So, while it was done under the 20K mile service (while the car had 15K miles), it does not seem to be RMS related. There are no RMS complaints in the service history. I seem to recall my '06 Boxster had the rare but noticeable screeching noise too and the dealer had fixed it.

RMS and transmission leaks are very common on low mileage 06' MY. I would not worry about it with CPO.
