Sporty or Comfortable [shifting]
Legend: 'Sporty' means PDK. 'Comfortable' means manual. PAG's words.

I think folks are reading something into this that's not there. They never label either transmission. I understand them to say that the first 6 gears are closely spaced for performance, and the 7th is for cruising. The only "sporty" attribute to distinguish the two is that faster shift times possible with the PDK.

Aw crap....very nice Porsche marketing pablum...that's all.
'Sport' for me means rowing the gears - that's why I own a Porsche.
Want to cruise along and not bother? OK, get the PDK, I'm sure it's a fine piece of work, and for those who have issue with their left leg/foot, I understand. But all the marketing gimmicks of PAG aren't going to move me toward that stuff. When my left foot (painful for over a year with plantar fasciitis) and/or my left knee gives out, I'll drive something else. But even with some pain, I enjoy the shifting and involvement of driving a manual transmission.
No argument here with someone who likes PDK...have at it. My preference is stick. So be it.

I really don't see that it attributes one or the other to either transmission, with the exception of noting that the PDK shifts faster - something that's indisputable. The point being made is simply that the car can be sporty or comfortable, and this is true of either transmission choice. The voiceover makes the point that the new manual has six closely spaced sporty ratios and one long gear for economy (and one presumes comfort). In this regard, both transmissions have similar philosophies, the 7th gear's raison d'être in both transmissions being focused on economy and comfort.

As an audio engineer who mixes videos like this everyday, I can tell you how much debate would have taken place to put that word "comfort" right on the cut to hit that image like that... loads... then submission for internal approval and then client approval. It was deliberate. We normally do not do that unless to draw attention to it, also, his delivery on the word "comfort" hits just a tad harder. They probably had the poor guy read just the word "comfort" in sets of three for twenty takes just to have options.
I'm sure the bean counters would love for everyone to just have PDK. No clutch issues, over-revs, ect. They've already re-designed the Manual gearbox from the PDK.

Interestingly enough, if we're going to analyze things in respect of the connection between the spoken audio and the corresponding video, the car in shot when the word "sporty" is ennunciated is the car with the 7 speed manual! The PDK is in shot for the word "or" and the both are in shot for the word "comfortable". Make of that what you will...

I thought that this video is interesting. To avoid further controversy I have closed the thread.
