Happened out of the blue.. .. Start the car fine w/ the clutch depressed but cannot put the car in gear unless the engine is off? What's the problem? Is it the master cyclinder?

So metimes mine wont go into reverse - seems like its in the afternoon after sitting in the heat all day - dont know if its related. I have to coast backwards and use 1st gear. Then it goes into reverse fine. If it progresses I'll have it looked at. Havent tried turning ignition off.

Whatever you do don't force it. You'll only make things worse. Do you have the short shifter? Temperature issues? What did you do last (when you put it away the last time).

No forcing it here.. I had it flat bed right away... I dont' think it's a temperature issue since after a 2 hrs drive, I arrived at my final destination... parked the car for 30 mins or so and then when out again for a haircut... and out of the blue it happened.. I was lucky in enough to get it to a parking lot.

Let us know what caused the problem
I find that I cannot shift to 1st easily at times from a stop which I find a common issue with our cars. It does not happen frequently, but when it does it annoys the heck out of me

That's been so effective all these years that I never really looked into the cause further than the old shade-tree explanation, so I can't vouch for the reason it works, only the technique. Certainly, it never indicated a clutch problem looming. I've encountered that predictably as I say, and I usually get 90,000 miles between clutch replacements. Sometimes 110,000. Depends on the car of course.
Whether this is the OP's issue is arguable. It didn't sound like the same situation to be honest.

Porsche is saying it looks like clutch and maybe flywheel.. but won't know for sure unless they drop the transmission. quoting 4K for clutch and flywheel with about 900 labour in that total
