I like the low miles,Canadian car but I know the CPO is important to U. Not sure of the quality/availability of warranty U can purchase. Bought an extended warranty for my wife Boxster after her orig 2005 ran out. Bought it thru dealer.
Still bring it to an independent shop in Seattle for service. Would get as others have stated a PPI on the favored car before you pull the trigger.
May have a price bump when the 991 is here but I know it is tough to wait.

Buy # 2 and spend $2.5K on a 4 year/48,000mi (additional to what is on the car now) Fidelity Gold+ Policy if warranty is important to you.

Is the CPO warranty from PCNA going to be valid in Canada? Not so sure, which would mean crossing the border whenever you have a warranty repair.

Default ***UPDATE***

  1. There is a $1200 tranfer (inspection fee for the warranty)
  2. Option 2 car wont budge on price so it is $69K
  3. Option #1 Car will reduced costs by 2K if they remove Porsche warranty

So if I compared cars without the warranty the final cost would be...

Option#1
$65,720 (including 6% Duty)

Option #2
$69,000

Are the options and less miles worth $3,280 for a Canadian car?

I like number one, and I'm not sure why it would hurt resale in Canada after you've paid the import tax yourself. The speedometer dial calibrated in metric for the large numbers? Surely not.

Passing on that, getting 'history' on any car is iffy beyond the big issues like collisions and such. Getting it is problematic and using it is even worse. How much weight do you give an owner's assurance about maintenance practices and such?

I'd look at the cars as they stand and make your choice on that alone. (With PPI in either case of course.) Mileages this low in four years don't worry me either way. Porsches don't wear out in thirty thousand miles. Ours has more miles than number one and it's only a 2009.

If you expect to DD the car, as we do, then the first thirty is a blink of the eye. If you expect to use it only a few thousand each year, then with #1 you've got a proven car that still won't be high mileage in five more years. After a certain age, a car that is very low mileage is suspect for that reason alone unless it's been owned by someone like Jay Leno that can point to thirty other choices each time he opens the garage door, and has a mechanic working full time to keep his garage queens maintained despite their lack of miles. Cars don't like to just sit and dessicate. Porsche recommends at least 9,000 miles a year and by that standard, both of these examples are low mileage. Number one comes closest to the Porsche recommendation. With number two, the PPI will need to look specially hard for effects of not being driven. Dry seals and so forth.

I'd give them a push on all those reasons and rely on findings of the PPI and the all important "personal preference." Go for the one that grabs you "by the heart strings" as poets put it.

But personally, I would not skip the warranty. I don't plan to pay for a CPO on our car as the factory warranty approaches the end, but I've put most of the miles on it. It's a known quantity. For a car I don't know, the CPO from PCNA is a good deal and the way to bet.

There are most likely people on here that would be willing to put you into an 09 S for less than 80k. I've never been too attached to any car.

Well, I'm going down to test a 2011 PDK next week, so I'd let my 2009 go for that price. The trouble is we're looking at two different numbers I'm pretty sure. I would want 80k on the barrelhead. That is, going into my account. As the buyer, you'd want the car with only 80k going out of your account. I suspect that in reality we'd have at least ten thousand (U.S.) going into various government coffers and to shipping firms.

Ah well, thus do governments stifle free enterprise...

I mean that you could have my 2009 for U$80,000 because I'm looking hard at a 2011 model and might as well sell this one to a private buyer. But I suspect that if we worked a deal that gave me that much money, you'd end up paying shipping and insurance of a two or three thousand plus import tax of another ... did you say $2500? Then I suppose you have some equivalent of our sales tax that would add several thousand. So you'd end up paying U$87k to U$90k for a car that I sold for U$80k.

Conversely, to get the car into your driveway for only U$80k, deduct all those costs and the net to me would be only $70k to $73k. Or so I surmise without doing all that arithmetic with actual estimates in hand. Just for the sake of might-have-beens, here is what my current 997.2 looks like (If I can manage a quick image upload):
