new carrera s
I am going to drive a new Carrera S this morning. The owner of the dealership is claiming it is a 2012, but I expect it to be the 997.2. The car with options lists for 100K plus some change. I have never driven a Carrera or CS, or any Porsche other than the Cayman base model I now own.
I "think" I can get it in the low 80's, probably around 82,000. The owner wants my 2011 Cayman in trade, which is where I expect most of the profit is gonna be for the dealer.
So let's say I drive the car and like it and offer the dealer $82,000.00 today, no trade, and he agrees. Good price?

Good luck nonetheless.

Not going to happen, low 80's for a 100K plus car. Should be able to get 10-12% off though. Good luck!

Check the Build date on the inside driver's door. My dealer told me that he thought anything after the May builds were branded 2012 - but this was for the GTS and he said "he thought". If, however, you do get the build month I think you can do a simple bit of research and find out if it was one of the last 2011's or one of the first 2012's. This might help in your negotiations.

Offering low 80's on a brand new 2012 997-2 would probably be considered insulting. But do let us know how it goes.

I just purchased a new 2011 C2. I got what I considered an incredibly good deal due in large measure to the fact that the dealer owed me for selling me a lemon certified car with a bad transmission.
I will be really surprised if you get anywhere near 10% off but will be interested to hear how it goes.

one of the best responses ever I got was from local herb chambers dealership - 'we sell for stcker prices only, we cannot negotiate selling prices as they all are set in the computer'.
i left him my best regards for his computer and ceased any business with herb chambers in MA. such an idiots...

I drove the car. Well, not the car I thought I was going to drive, its gone. But I really liked the one I drove. This car is sticker low 100's and I now believe that if I get serious with the dealer I might get it for low 90's, maybe a little better. Will see what develops in the next few days.
Thanks to those that posted and to the pm's.
Now a question to the (former) Cayman owners that moved up to the Carrera. What justified the 40K upgrade?

I agree that it was a fun car to drive. But the Cayman is a fun car to drive. I realize that they are two different types of cars, and should "feel" different to drive, which they do.
I am an occasional driver, not a track guy, and when I do drive I usually spend most of my time going back and forth on the interstate. About 500 or 600 miles per month, max.
For reasons I can't explain I really like the look of this particular Carrera. This one is silver with black interior, not especially exotic, but nice in any event. The Cayman is exotic, black over saddle interior, and attracts lots of attention in the rural area where I live and work.
I can afford the car; I am having trouble reconciling the difference in cost, probably close to 40K, should I trade. Like I said, I had a lot of fun during the 45 minute test drive, I just don't know if I had $40,000 worth of fun.
