Default Front LED upgrade coming soon - orange tuning

Hey fellas - received my rear LEDs yesterday to be swapped into 08 targa4s.
Emailed Frank at OrangeTuning and these front LEDs will be released within a few weeks. I couldn't attach all so I created a picasa google link:

Thanks Jack667 for posting; I removed my link.

1) they look like the ROTEC ones that Ray has been previewing

2) what is a 'position light'?

thanks, that would have been my guess. So, DRL and parking lights would be different. Is that usually the case?

And to clarify - parking lights are the first position of the headlights, with front and rear illumination. And the 2nd position just adds the headlights themselves, correct?

For DRLs, do the rear lights illuminate?

Boy, do I feel dense...

Fog light functions are lost? What happens when you turn on fog lights? Error message?

Functionally, I would think that having the fog light switch activate what are the DRLs would be a good idea. That way you don't have to have the DRLs on all the time if you don't want them on.

I saw the same pics, Orange emailed me. The individual pics are fine, but the on on the car just doesn't look right to me, and it sure looks like the same as Rotec.

Also, like to see how "position light" lights up.

Agreed. It is exactly the same as Rotec. To me, it looks rather more aftermarket than the OEM look of the 997.2. Something is just not right. Will reserve judgement until further pics on car are forthcoming.

If I remember correctly you have to switch on the rear fog lights (1st position) before the front lights (2nd position). I see some idiots driving around trying to look cool by having their front fog lights on not knowing they are blinding everyone behind with the rear fog lights.

The logic makes sense. There are lots of situations where the fog requires the rear lights so traffic behind can see you. If you need the front fog lights then you certainly need the rears to be on.

For DRL it's only the front lights that come on, not the rears.

Agreed. They don't look right. I think it's because on cars that have rows of LEDs on the front, they are usually integrated into the main beam units like the Audi or BMW angel lights.

You're wrong. Fog light controls are designed in such a way that only the fronts come on first, and then the second stage is if conditions warrant it, to put on the rears. 80-95% of the time rears are never needed. Rears are a terrible distraction, while the fronts can be useful to fill in the voids. Many in America have no idea their cars have a rear fog light, only to turn it on by mistake.

Oops yes you're correct. I just found a picture of the switch and it's front only then front and rear.

I believe the DRLs on my '06 S (which were simply the headlights) were selectable via the PCM, on or off.
The DRLs on the '11 GTS are also selectable via the lower left stalk on the steering column, on or off.
The 997.2 DRLs are a straight line of 6 LEDs per side, just below the turn-signals..
