So, with this new aftermarket LED DRL, where are the fogs? Will that be eliminated?

Most likely the front fog lights will be eliminated--simply because they're not needed. Porsche discovered with the 997.1 cars with the BiXenon headlights that they cast such a wide beam that the 'fog lights' didn't really contribute anything. By 997.2 the front fogs went away and they got merely the option of activating the front DRLs instead. However, the 997.2 do retain rear fog lights in the event weather conditions warrant their use. For the aftermarket front LED designers, I would assume that they will follow the factory's lead.

New DRLs look cool - no more Christmas light "dots" - that will drive all the 997.1 converters crazy reconverting.

There is no way to do that. However, sometimes I merely turn on my running lights (just a notch shy of the headlights) and then turn on the front fogs alone. They work reasonably well.

I didn't realize until reading through this thread, that my 997.2 had "position lights" in the front light pods.
Not something that gets used much in this country. I like the look, though.
Much more subtle than the "toothy" LED DRLs. Pardon the cell pic.

I did that on my Audi, but many people did it, and there was a great write-up and Audi OEM parts for it.

For a DRL retrofit, I think the easiest thing would be to use a current sensing relay such as this:

I would think such a relay would be included in the installation kit.

Heads up that there is the sound of a GROUP BUY for the ROTec front LED set up for the 997.1 cars.

BTW, you can opt to have them "on" or "off" by using the lower left hand stalk. I an currently in Texas and my car is in SC, so I don't recall the exact sequence to activate or deactivate them.
