997.1 now or 997.2 later
So, I've been eyeing a 911 for sometime now. I thought I was going to pick up 06/07 C2(S) Cab, but since I've discovered this forum, I'm now thinking about 997.2 with PDK. The problem is, my original budget was mid $55k, but that's $20k below what 997.2 PDK's are going for.
So, the dilemma now is, do I get the 06/07 997.1 now or wait another year to save up the $15k (thinking they'll be less 12 months from now).
I keep hearing people say, "Buy the most you can afford". What if I can't afford the one I want!
My guess is, since I've waiting this long for a 911, what's another year? Your thoughts???

I forgot to mention, my current ride is 1999 BMW 328is with 174k miles. I've the original owner and I don't change cars very often. My previous ride I owned it 9 years. I plan on paying cash so I don't want to finance it. I've looked at taking over a lease if the conditions are right. If I take over a lease, I plan on buying the car when the lease is up.

If you have to have automatic, wait till you can afford PDK... however, if you can do manual, then 997.1 is the way to go!

I also agree about paying cash. We got surprised with no reserve handy when a dealer crashed our last car and we had to replace it without forewarning. My jaw was tight for months over having to accept even the low-interest loan USAA provided. Still...
With that said, I don't think the dot two is going to be down more than ten thousand over the next twelve months. The biggest reason the average price will go down at all is that average examples will have another eight or ten thousand miles of use, like ours. If you buy an example without those extra miles then you won't get the lower price. You might as well get those miles for yourself in exchange for a small loan of ten or fifteen thousand. The only cost -- except to your jaw muscles if you're like me -- will be a few hundred dollars of interest. And a chance to drive a 997.2 is worth those hundreds.
Believe me. (c.f. "A Well-Tempered Porsche" that I just posted today.)

URAP,
Have you considered a 2009 base Carrera with PDK and Sport Chrono? The 997.1 S has 355 HP and the 997.2 Carrera (non-S) has 345 HP. They are out there from $63K to $75K (I know, the $75K is a stupid asking price for an almost 3 year old car with a sticker of less that $90k. [End Commentary])
Say you got one for $65K. Borrow $10K for 36 months at 4.0% and your payments will $295/month. If you can save $15K in a year, then pay off the $10K in 9 months. You will be driving a 2009 PDK now versus waiting a year or more. Just a thought.
