Hi Gary,

I agree, I don't think .2 will drop $10k, but I'm hoping it'll drop a little bit. If I can wait, I can come up with the additional in about 8-12 months (Figuring .2 will be under $70k by then).

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I guess I'm not surprised to see both sides.

Say you got one for $65K. Borrow $10K for 36 months at 4.0% and your payments will $295/month. If you can save $15K in a year, then pay off the $10K in 9 months. You will be driving a 2009 PDK now versus waiting a year or more. Just a thought.
Tim, I have my heart set on a cab. Haven't found anything under $75k via autotrader, craigslist, ebay, swapalease, leasetrader, pusa.com.

Like Gary said, I would prefer to pay cash since I plan on owning the car for years to come.

DHC, wife actually learned how to drive a stick years ago, so she does know how but would rather now drive a manual. Also, I would simply prefer to drive an automatic as I live in SF Bay area and in the city all the time and the hills are a pain.

Once again, thanks for all the comments. As expected, you guys are giving me more things to think about.

That sounds a smart decision all around. Get the car you know you'll appreciate for the long time you plan to own it. And don't risk a charley horse from a tight jaw. They hurt.

Ah, now I see you're in the Bay area. My tongue-in-cheek comment re: the manual is hereby redacted.

Good luck in your search!

I've had both. Had a .1 manual and now have a .2 PDK. I feel the .2 is a much superior car although I would have kept the .1 except for a stroke that left me needing the PDK.

Interesting. FYI my wife has not driven my car in the 3 years I've had it. She totally happy with her E38. Go manual. I still love it after 3 years of racing around the city. I've tested the PDK and guys love them but here's something more engaging, more of an enhanced old school driving experience with he manual. My 3 cents (Canadian)...

Default Tiptronic

I have owned many Ps, about 25. I own a 98 C2S Tip, and a 08 C4S Targa Tip. I also had an 03 996 TT Tip. I know they are great!

Chances are, my wife will not drive my car, but just in case something came up and she had to drive my car for some reason, I want to make it as easy as possible for her. This will also be my DD and after driving a stick for 25 years, time for something simple. I drove the PDK and I don't think I'll be missing the 3rd pedal.

Yikes! Just curious, how old is "too old for manuals"?

Think I might agree with the Who when they sang:
"I hope I die before I get old (Talkin' 'bout my generation)"

At 64 I'm still enjoying a manual. That is, when I remember where I parked it.
