Default J.D. Powers: New Car Quality

Lexus regained its No. 1 spot in the survey, which is lost to Porsche last year. Porsche fell to the sixth spot, behind Honda, Acura, Mercedes and Mazda.

J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey shows new and redesigned cars have more problems than existing models.

Folks..... the best have roughly 0.7 problems per car and the worst have roughly 1.3 problems per car........ big deal!

They ALL have +/- 1 problem per car on average.......... so what is the REAL value of the JD Power Initial Quality Survey?

I've personally participated in a few of JD Power surveys and based on my input experience, I would rate JPD as subjective at best.

This isn't empirical data, consumer input is heavily biased toward subjective evaluations in context of the manner in which the manufacturer resolved warranty issues.

Manufacturers can significantly skew consumer input to JD Power surveys simply by being effective in dealing with warranty and quality control issues as consumers bring them to dealer attention.

It's like we see quoted here: "Porsche replaced my engine at 4000 miles, I have no concerns about Porsche reliability".

Porsche is outstanding on this front and it is my view that that posture allows them to post favorable JDP results much moreso than any particular attention to build quality.

The 997 range is solid, it has been at the top of many surveys. I suspect it's the new SUV and Sedan models that have caused Porsche to lose its 1st place ranking.

Still have no interest in products like a ES350, an Accord, or the ugliest ricer design of the bunch.....

What makes that a "ricer" design?

Customer satisfaction has no affect on the quality and reliability studies. No matter how happy the owner feels about the repair, there still a repair work reported.

The drivers. Especially those with the S type thinking they are driving a F1.

Agree 100000000+
The TL '04-'08 STILL is one of best looking 4 doors on the market...almost bought one instead of the 335i.

The '09+ is an abomination...no wonder Acura sales have tanked!
