the police accident team guestimate he was doing 130 when he crashed. town chief says he's "never seen a car destroyed in an automobile accident the way this car was ... even before it caught on fire."

Yep.. after the video.. your right.. looks like maybe, he tried to turn right and changed his mind and stay straight?? or simply tried to stay in the corner and it got tighter than horses *** on the way to the glue factory! Damn Shame actually.

For anyone curious, after some further reading I found out the skid marks in the #1 lane are from the police speed/skid test, in order to estimate his speed at time of impact(which is where the up to 140mph comes from in the report)

That makes no sense. Two entirely different types of skid marks. The Porsche was clearly in a spin prior to impact with the guardrail, whereas the other set is brake lock-up in a straight line by a dual wheeled vehicle without ABS (a semi, perhaps).
Any real data to support that, or just internet babble?

Would a large German sedans like the Mercedes S-class or the BMW 7 series have done any better in this high speed? How about a massive SUV like the Cadillac Escalade or the Range Rover?

I would think that they probably have a chart/program that they can look up the skid length for one known vehicle with known tire patch on a surface and correlate to another vehicle of a different weight, different tire patch etc. It probably also has speed and skid length as a variable. They probably just get up to 60 on a specific vehicle and then lock them up and measure the skid. this tells a lot about the surface.
